A non-answer. How about you prove that Trump doesn’t stand for anything, & prove that one politician of your choice does? I think Trump’s just more honest than other politicians. That doesn’t mean I think he’s a good guy. I don’t trust any politicians or either big party. But I don’t understand this ‘Democrat presidents are great but the Republican ones are evil’ - just like I don’t understand it when Republicans say the same thing flipped. They both seem utterly delusional takes to me. Not trying to strawman you as you have not explicitly said any such thing, but you kind of have implied it.
Well, let me put it this way. As a gay man, I've watched the last several years as one party has made me and mine its demonized scapegoats for political gain. I've had members of one party accuse me accuse me... repeatedly... of raping children merely for existing, taking part in society, and demanding the same civil rights and equal treatment under the law for us that everyone else enjoys. I've seem you lot similarly accuse plenty of other LBGT people of raping children merely for existing and taking part in society. There's a thread over in The Dive with plenty of examples of those. I've seen one party immediately begin attacking LGBT people and rights the moment it seized power... just like it said it would. I've seen one party repeatedly calling for me and mine to, in increasing order of preference, not have the full rights of citizenship, or to be kicked out of the country, or to just be killed. I've seen one party, after reducing women in the US to the status of handmaids, and after immediately engaging in craven spin-doctoring to present the impression otherwise, have one of its own slip up with the messaging and reveal that Lawrence and Obergefell are next on its chopping block. I've seen one party not just wanting to deny us equal access to civil, commercial, and social services; but wanting, seeking, and in some cases already legislating, to deny us access to health care.
I've seen the other party doing none of that. In fact, the other party has, at least publicly, mostly opposed all that
The other party may waste some of my taxpayer dollars on stupid shit that makes me WTF and roll my eyes. The other party may have forgotten how to effectively do its damned job. And the other party may actually just be indifferent and pandering for my vote and not really care about me at all. But the other party is not actively and maliciously trying to harm me and mine. When one party is in power I have a target on my back and have to be continually on the alert, looking over my shoulder, watching my back, and worrying about myself and the people I love... for fucking years on end! When the other party is in power, I can at least trust that reasonable and responsible adults are in charge; and I can let my guard down, relax the hyper-vigilance, not HAVE TO pay constant attention and worry to politics, and let the stress from all that flow away and go back to just living my life with the peace of mind that I am free to live that life. That's worth paying slightly higher taxes.
Good versus evil may be too simplistic a way to put it. But I sure as shit know which party it is in my best interests, my friends' best interests, my peers' best interests, and my loved ones' best interests, to support. And I know which party it is in all of our best interests to fight, oppose, and obstruct in any way I ever can.
