US Politics the 2025 trump presidency thread

radical ideology? she invited the president to show compassion and mercy. kind of like, oh i don't know, what JESUS WOULD FUCKING DO.

trump's response on his own social media site was so petty. he never misses an opportunity to show what a small man he is.

It's all to be expected at this point. Best to not give them the satisfaction of your outrage, the space they have in your mind is only what you allow them.

Best advice I can offer at this point, these motherfuckers are getting high on their own ego, tripping over one another to felate the ring.

It's a fine line. The media is kissing his ring, all of the media. If you've seen any videos of him lately, he's still senile and rambling as fuck but that's not being covered.
So, pointing out things that people won't otherwise notice we do need to do.
But, yeah, getting outraged is playing his game.
If we all freak out about the more minor things while he gives the billionaires huge tax cuts while revamping the tax code and cutting social programs so the rest of us pay for those cuts... well then it went according to plan, didn't it?

i tend to agree (with you here and with what @tryptakid wrote).

during and after his first term, i cam to the conclusion that there was literally nothing that he could do or say that would make his supporters challenge their own view of him. people who genuinely think of themselves as patriots gleefully cheering on his wiping his arse with the constitution.

but that opinion has changed now in the aftermath of the election result and subsequent to his taking office. i think some supporters are seeing things he's saying and doing and it is making them pause. sure, some of it is simply people selfishly realising that they voted against their own interests without really thinking it through, but people are starting to say "hey, wait a minute..."

this transition seems to be as much of a dumpster fire as the last one and we'll see where this all goes :)

I will say, there has been more chatter about the growing divide between the Steve Bannon/MAGA folks and the Musk/Tech folks as the former has started to notice who was sitting with The Former Reality Television Star-in-chief on MLK day (People with Nation-State levels of money who are outsourcing jobs to non-americans), and who was podcasting from a hotel across the street (Charlie Kirk). Loomer and Elon had that fight on Shitter, and some of the Jan 6th pardons have rubbed folks the wrong way (as you mentioned).

But hey - special ops feds are roaming around hunting down unarmed non-white people, so it's all good!

People will continue caring less and less about him as his second term goes on. As I said, there's nothing left to fight for. I'm just waiting to see what the next shiny object is going to be.

I somehow doubt it's going to be Vance.

If history is of any guidance we can look at the how the death of a strong leader with no obvious successor has typically resulted in intrasect conflicts (Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar would be ancient examples). I don't think Vance has it in him, but I'm guessing he's the closest thing to a marriage of the Tech-Right and MAGA... The tech-oligarchs are all drinking the Curtis Yarvin kool-aid and want to create tech-based monarchies.

Who the hell knows, this shit is bananas - B-A-N-A-N-A-S

Na. His supporters will still support him no matter what. As long as he pisses people off who they think are elites (that they think consider themselves better than them).
Similar to and the same as LBJ saying,

“If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.”

Similar as to the "elites" and the same with brown people.

But, anyway... his supporters or only maybe 30% of the electorate (and that might be shrinking a little, yes) Then, there are about 30% Dems, trump haters, whatever. Then there is the 30% which decides elections. And a whole fucking lot of them don't pay a lot of attention to politics. Many avoid it.

I think Vance is a puppet anyhow, which is smart of his backers (Thiel?) because Trump could easily kick the bucket, but Musk wants to push himself in ahead of him. Though I can't imagine Musk ever running for office. Now that would be a whole new sort of shit show!

Interesting how Trump is refusing to release the file because claims he doesn't want to ruin people's live over the lies that are in it.

I honestly think Trump had Epstein killed because he didn't want his trips to the Island to become public knowledge. Same reason he won't release the files.

If ever there was someone deserving their tipple that was dangerously cut with fentanyl, it's the big orange fuckwit. He's a coke user if ever there was one: says something that he then denies ever saying, just seems to give out terms like fake new and always dodges responsibility. Our last government (UK) is full of coke head MPs and you should hear the bollocks they come out with to try to excuse their behaviour - endemic from fuckwomble Boris Johnson downwards.

And on that note, if I were the president of Panama I'd already have the nation's military mobilized and ready... not to try to repel an invasion by trump's forces, but with enough explosives ready to move into place to destroy the canal system entirely and utterly. Thieves are scum. And if I knew in advance they were for sure coming for my property, I would burn it all to the ground before I'd let them get their filthy mitts on it.
Scorched earth policy - all that dictators and wannabee dictators understand. Bit like scuttling the whole imperial German fleet, in Scapa Flow, after WW1. Stopped Britain, France, Italy and fuck knows whoelse squabbling over who want their bit of the German fleet

You have to imagine the man is not in tip top shape. He sounded hoarse when he was talking (at great length) the other day (about By-den or Chy-na). I've come to realize that part of his mass appeal is the drone his voice can go into where he never gets angry so much as he'll drone on about the things in society that many people think but never say.

I can only imagine getting stuck in a coke-closet with him - having to just listen as he gobbles up line after line, never passing you the straw, and wanting to talk about his grandmother and that bitch of a neighbor who lived next door.

I have a lot of sympathy for families in the US that are worried about deportation. Many of them speak limited English and are really scared right now. Many of them have children that have been in this country their whole lives and I'm worried about what's going to happen.

My wife and I both work in human services (drug user health) and have a lot of overlap with people who provide services to immigrants in the area. I will say this - it's scary for them, and, there are a ton of people who are kind, committed, and good at what they do that are doing what they can to help. It's a small grace, but an important one.

the trump - and the gop - response to bishop budde's sermon is so telling.

let's first remember her crime - she invited the president to be merciful. to care for others.

you know, like jesus.

matthew 5:7: "Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy"

luke 6:36: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful"

trump has demanded she apologise. apologise!

for what? following christ?

she has nothing to apologise for.
