The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

If only the DNC hadn't rigged the nomination for Hillary we would probably have President Bernie right now. Sad. I hope he's still got it in him to run again in a couple years.

If it had been Bernie he would probably have lost because the other side would have beaten him up for being a socialist (communist).

A teacher at that school was interviewed on MSNBC this AM. He owns a gun but said that if he had wanted to be a cop he would have been a cop instead of a teacher. He pointed out that the cops would likely shoot anyone who had a gun, teacher or not. You can't solve complex societal issues with simplistic solutions. This will just serve the NRA & the gun manufacturers they represent.

Good point and interesting anecdote :)

DEMOCRATS CALL FOR HEARINGS ON JEFF SESSIONS' ANTI-MARIJUANA POLICY

https://news.vice.com/en_us/article...earing-on-jeff-sessions-anti-marijuana-policy

Eleven members of the House Judiciary Committee are demanding a hearing into the decision by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to roll back an Obama-era policy on marijuana enforcement, according to a letter obtained Monday by VICE News.

The letter, signed by 11 Democrats, calls for Chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte, a Republican from Virginia, to hold a hearing of the full House Judiciary Committee to discuss the recent move by Sessions, which gives federal prosecutors more leeway to launch marijuana cases in states that have legalized the drug for medical and recreational use.

It's going to interesting to see how this move against MJ works out. A lot of influential people & a lot of $$$ have gone into the MJ industry in CA & CO, & $$$ means political influence in support of MJ. And the states are making a lot of $$$ from sales taxes.

Trump & his people seem determined to roll back or eliminate everything that Obama put in place.

Nah. I mean, yeah, they would have tried...but the electorate doesn't seem to be swayed by that kind of thing anymore. You have your 20 or 30 percent hard right/alt right or whatever, but even they aren't that interested in economic issues anymore. They're all about immigration and guns.

At at the end of the day they wouldn't have been able to make anything stick on Bernie because Trump isn't exactly Mr. Fiscal Responsibility. He doesn't want to balance the budget. He wants more military spending. He's for massive infrastructure spending and wants to keep all the entitlements pretty much where they are. What's a guy like that say to bully a progressive for being a socialist?

Bernie would have won. There would have been droves of people who didn't vote for Hill or Dump but would have shown up for Bernie. Plus, those midwestern states that swung Trump because of his tough talk on free trade would have gone the other way.

Bernie would have won.

People are starting to realize the GOP tax bill was a massive scam
President Donald Trump and the Republicans sold their slapdash effort at tax reform as a boon to the middle class. As the law goes into effect, however, new polling suggests that most Americans are struggling to see any benefit at all in their paychecks.

A survey from Politico and Morning Consult found that only 37 percent of employed people have seen an increase in their paychecks since the law went into effect, while 53 percent of people have not noticed a change.

One big difference between the people who are seeing a pay increase and those who aren't? Income.

“Our polling shows high-income earners are more likely to have noticed an increase in their paychecks as a result of the tax bill," said Kyle Dropp, Morning Consult’s co-founder and chief research officer.

Only 16 percent of people with an income under $50,000 a year said they noticed a pay increase. That number rises to 33 percent of people with income between $50,000 and $100,000, and 40 percent for people who make more than $100,000.

These findings emphasize the fact that the bill was never designed to be a tax cut for working Americans. It was designed, first and foremost, to be a massive giveaway for corporations. It slashed the corporate tax rate at the cost of $2 trillion over ten years.

Oh, and those meager individuals tax cuts that only some people are seeing? The tax bill actually phases them out over the next ten years. By the end of a decade, taxes on many people are slated to go up.

Once again, the GOP sold a policy to the American people that was a total bait-and-switch.

Lying requires you to knowingly say something dishonest. Trump doesn't have to lie very often cause he always assumes reality is however he'd like it to be to start with.

I'm the best negotiator with the greatest mind ever to exist. Is that a lie? Not if you're so detached from reality that you believe it. :)

What a fucking joke. 8) He couldn't even be bothered to not golf and attend the funerals. He couldn't even have the decency to act like a human when talking to the surviving kids without notes outlining what any non-sociopath wouldn't need notes for. He couldn't even refrain from turning this tragedy into a plan to arm teachers and sell millions more guns for the NRA.

It continues to be shocking just how deplorable a human Trump is, and how absolutely awful he is as a president. I keep thinking I can't be surprised anymore. But then I am again.

Just when it seems like he couldn't say anything worse...

I sometimes think it's part of a clever strategy - acclimatising people for authoritarian government, basically.
Trashing the press, sabotaging institutions, undermining the role democratic governments have traditionally played.

But other times i think he's just a sick, pampered and deeply fucked-up excuse for a president.

Either way, it's great to see you posting in ce&p, xork. <3

part of me is surprised that this went without comment in here. but another part is not surprised at all because every day of the trump presidency brings more of the bizarre and the surreal and demonstrates, to me, that this guy could not be less fit for the office.

so, in the wake of the parkland shooting, president trump held a 'listening session' with survivors and family members. press caught a shot of his crib notes for the meeting:

#5 "i hear you"

what kind of sociopathic moron needs a note like that to remind him to pretend to be a human being to a group of kids who were just terrorized by a gunman in their school and saw their own classmates die?

jfc :\

alasdair

I could use a card like that.

He wants the states to reopen mental hospitals. Who's going to pay for that & all the staffing they would need? Easy to say, hard to implement. Rounding up people & sticking them in 'hospitals' sounds a lot like the 1930s in Nazi Germany where they dealt with 'undesirables'.

Everyone - except a tiny, elite few - are victims of trumpist oligarchy, especially with his attacks on environmental science.
Climate change knows no national borders; it affects us all - with some of the poorest people being the most adversely affected.

I feel sorry for the americans that are subjects of his embarassing attacks, but i would suggest that his negative influence is global.

I see a lot of Mussolini in him, fascism & bombast that his under-educated & uninformed base just loves. But we can't forget the wealthy people who will benefit from his tax scam.

The Scary Parallels Between Trump and Mussolini

Comparisons between Trump(ism) and Fascism have become frequent, and with good reason. These comparisons are strongest between Trump and Mussolini — stronger than with Hitler and Nazi-ism. Detailed comparisons are difficult for at least two reasons: 1) the historical circumstances are quite different between the 20s and 30s and today, and 2) Fascism was never a coherent political theory or philosophy, but, instead, was a populist and nationalist development in Italy that Mussolini did not create, but did take over.

I will put up links, but I just wanted to comment that Jared Kushner has just had a very bad day from John Kelly pulling his interim security clearance with Trump's blessing, being probed by foreign countries on how he could be useful to them, and finally his communications guy is suddenly itching to leave and hit the private sector in NYC.

Interesting...

That looks like bullshit selective editing if ever I've seen it.

I mean come on, is there any evidence beyond that picture? Cause I've seen better evidence that Hillary Clinton is part of a secret Satanist cannibal conspiracy that that being proof of white power whateverbs.

come on, jess. trump knows who his people are - and quite a number of them are extremist scumfucks (neo nazis, white supremacists and various other hate groups)
he's never made a vaguely convincing attempt at distancing himself from hate, because it's pretty clear what he is.
he's a fascist.

this sort of thing is typically what happens when someone like him uses as much violent and racist (not to mention misogynistic) bullshit to distract attention from him pillaging the united states government to line his pockets, employ his criminal family and whatever other dubious crap he's up to - i think he sees himself as a strongman, and by sewing seeds of division, he's enlisted the help of these various emboldened race-hate terrorist and streetfighter groups to fight his "white power" battle on the streets.
modern day blackshirts, essentially.
real classy guy.

note trump's affiliations with the so-called alt-right. then consider the "alt-right's" embrace of neo-nazi ideology.

with a quick search i came across a lot of articles about this, but this snopes one has a pretty decent breakdown of the whole thing, for whatever that's worth.
and they're not calling it one way or another.
i don't know about you, but i don't see anything cryptic or dubious about trump's links to racist extremists. david duke, charlottesville and all the hateful bile he's spewed into global political discourse.

as stated in the article, it might be some super edgelord trolling exercise - but even if that's the case, it's in pretty poor taste. especially considering the amount of murders attributed in the last year to various right wing, trump supporting hate groups.
the trumpists love this hate and division. thrive off it. it's so irresponsible, and it's tearing the country apart.

to use a bad analogy - where there's smoke, sometimes there is a burning cross (or tiki torch).

edit - oh, and let's not forget about the neo-nazi on the republican ticket in illinois.
