What many people didn't realize is that due to the negative publicity surrounding PCP, those that were making and marketing the stuff came up with a brilliant idea: they simply called it something DIFFERENT than PCP. Hence, many people were led to believe that what they were snorting was THC, or simply 'T' for short.

About 95 percent of the PCP in the late 70's early 80's was manufactured in BATHTUBS, (literally), there were many different qualities of this compound. Some purer than others and some downright loaded with impurities.

Some of the best that I remember wasn't even 'white powder' but more of a BROWNISH color.

But you can rest assured that what was being sold with the name "T" was nothing more than PCP or a derivative thereof.

All anyone that's ever done it needs to do to be convinced is watch a nature show where they use PCP to capture a lion or tiger. Immediately upon being shot with a dart of this stuff, the animal starts stumbling and running in to things. Eventually, (within a very SHORT period of time), the animal ends up falling down with his eyes WIDE OPEN and tongue hanging out. This is the exact EFFECT that a decent dose of "T" would have upon an individual. The trick was to NOT DO ENOUGH to end up in this state. If one could do JUST ENOUGH, it was an INCREDIBLE high. But just a TAD 'too much' and one was in for some sort of NIGHTMARE. From talking trees warning of impending doom to sensations of simply fading into oblivion, the effects of an 'overdose' were not TOO FRIENDLY. Yet I have NEVER heard of anyone that even KNEW anyone that died from an overdose of PCP. It was SO POTENT that one would obviously have to do WAY MORE than a 'hit or two', (tiny tiny line), to even become comatose. I personally have witnessed persons INJECT quarter grams of this stuff only to be 'zombi-tised' for a day or so. While many have, without a doubt, THOUGHT they were going to die, I never heard of anyone actually dying from an OD.

So let me assure all those that 'bought in' to the hype of being sold "THC" in a powder form, nothing of the sort EVER EXISTED. What they were buying was actually "PCP". And anyone that ever ate a 'tab of T' or snorted this stuff KNOWS that the effect was NOTHING LIKE smoking weed. Yet if they were actually snorting pure THC, the effects would most certainly be 'recognizable' as being THC. The PCP high was ONE OF A KIND. Nothing else even remotely LIKE IT unless you were to mix cocaine, heroin, acid, speed, XTC together in small enough amounts to make each of the effects run TOGETHER.

Now, how do I KNOW what I am speaking of? Back then in High Times Magazine, you could send a small sample of any substance along with a small payment and and an identification code they would have it analyzed at a lab and you could call in with your security code and they would given you the results. On numerous occasion either I, or buddies of mine, had sent in samples of this "T" only to find that it was IN FACT, PCP or a derivative thereof. Some of it quite pure and others NOT SO PURE. But inevitably each was indeed PCP.

So there you have it. How easy it was back then to DUPE an entire group into believing something utterly fabricated. Just like MOST of what people smoking THAI Sticks were smoking was actually some of the first 'crippy' that slicksters were merely wrapping on bamboo sticks. Weed that was grown in their neighbors garage was being touted as THAI STICK simply because NO ONE EVEN KNEW what THAI Stick actually was. An easy way for a man to take a 5.00 gram and make 30.00 off of it.

Interesting post man, I've never really come across PCP or read much about it. Made for a good read, it's astonishing how so many people got duped.

Thanks for sharing,

Peace

PCP is VERY common in the major American East Coast city where I'm from. From what people who I've met who were around in the 70s and early 80s told me it was also very popular here then too. Hypothetically today if you want it you can easily get it. I have never used it but I have lots of friends and peers who I grew up with who have used it. Most just smoked it on herb in joints, bowls, bongs, or blunts. Some people would get liquid PCP and dip a cigarette into it. A few people I went to school with were dustheads but most people I knew just smoked dust or wet socially and wouldn't go out and buy it but if their friend had some dust or a few people wanted to get dusted they'd use it.

I read a very dated book by the bisexual author Marco Vassi titled "The Stoned Apocalypse" and he described going out to the West Coast and going to some orgy and everyone there took powdered THC but that's PCP.

I've also been told that in the 70s and 80s powdered PCP in gelcaps or in tablets was sold as "mescaline" in some areas.

In my area unless you were smoking socially with someone who was into dust and they didn't tell you that the herb had wet/dust on it you'd hypothetically know you were getting PCP.

I have friends who would smoke way too much herb and they'd think that they smoked PCP but really they just got way too high or smoked way too much at once.

Out of all of the people I've ever met who smoked PCP none of them ever got violent on it, or attacked anyone while on it. A lot of them told me how it just made it very difficult for them to move, how when they could move they'd stumble around or fall easily, and how the drug made things very confusing. The one guy I know who smoked it a few times in the 70s who loved it told me how he loved how it made him numb but he's an alcoholic and later went into treatment/AA, and other people who smoked it in lower or moderate doses said how it just made them feel as though they were sort of levitating when they were walking and in higher doses it made them feel as though they were going to pass out. A guy I knew who when he smoked dust the first time after snorting a large amount of coke proceeded to smoke lots of bonghits of herb that had PCP on it from a foot long bong and he told me how while on the drug he thought he'd died and it was as though he was a zombie but how the drug just lasted most of the night and he came down in the morning.

I think a lot of the problems attributed to PCP is from the PCC impurity. Nasty shit.

Me, I actually like PCP. It's was very common in the 70's and 80's, kind of died down by the mid 90's. But it's around if you want it, just not as easy to get as coke or meth. Seems like a lot the people who'd be shermheads just do meth now.

And there's no way in hell anyone who's smoked weed before would smoke sherm and not notice the taste and smell. Like chemicals.

What a strange post.....lol......Hit the sherm just before you posted perhaps?

Yes - what was sold as "THC" or also as "peace pills" in the early-mid 70s was PCP. It was a little before my time but I heard plenty of stories of people who'd tried it as "THC". However even at the time it was widely known that this was in fact PCP. Just as it is widely known today that "embalming fluid" is just another euphemism for PCP. But I was very active from the late 70s on and never heard of people still selling either "THC" or "Peace Pills" though PCP was widely available in certain downmarket circles (just like today) - though by then it had a terrible media hyped reputation. So if you were seeing "THC" pcp in the late 70s and early 80s you might have been in some weird timewarp, but I certainly never did.....

As for Thai Sticks that's total BS. I gave a long explanation in another thread recently about the history of "Thai" herb. It was herb. It was awesome. There was no opium or PCP on it. There was no ghetto cultivation of "crippy" before the end of the massive import era that brought in multi-ton loads of "Thai" regularly. I'd love to smoke some now...
