Thatcher's dead

She may have fucked a lot of people over, (and generations to come), but dancing about and celebrating her death is pretty disgusting.

Note how most of the people in Glasgow were teeny boppers, who in all probability were doing it for show, and have no idea about her Pm'ship or were directly affected by any of her policies. Idiots.

PS. Nice one on the Falklands though.

Incorrect.

News of Margaret Thatcher's death this morning instantly and predictably gave rise to righteous sermons on the evils of speaking ill of her...

This demand for respectful silence in the wake of a public figure's death is not just misguided but dangerous. That one should not speak ill of the dead is arguably appropriate when a private person dies, but it is wildly inappropriate for the death of a controversial public figure, particularly one who wielded significant influence and political power...

But the key point is this: those who admire the deceased public figure (and their politics) aren't silent at all. They are aggressively exploiting the emotions generated by the person's death to create hagiography...

Demanding that no criticisms be voiced to counter that hagiography is to enable false history and a propagandistic whitewashing of bad acts, distortions that become quickly ossified and then endure by virtue of no opposition and the powerful emotions created by death. When a political leader dies, it is irresponsible in the extreme to demand that only praise be permitted but not criticisms.

Correct.

Margaret Thatcher and misapplied death etiquette

No one cares about the etiquette of attacking my policies, it's the out and out pissing on my grave comments that are disgusting and not a 'political whitewash' at all. It's called common decency. I hadn't been involved in anything political for over a decade, I may well as have been dead. My actual passing makes no difference to your life or the world. You haven't won anything because I died cozy in a bed at the ritz well beyond anyone's normal life expectancy.

Very good article, and I didn't realise Chavez was dead. There was one day recently they were going on about him on the radio but I just thought they were having a Chavez day.

A lot of people thought Chavez was a great man, but he was, apparently, roundly condemned after his death, as before it, without anyone getting their knickers in a twist. Media (and just people!) love to pick and choose when it comes to the moral high ground.

You destroyed our common decency. It was a policy of yours. So we invented new ethics. Which include pissing on your grave. What goes around comes around Marge.

His policies were condemned. Drinking champange in the streets though... Don't think so.

Oh fuck off. I've never met more vile people than rich right-wing Tories. Your PM and his mate Boris used to piss on restaurant tables before smashing the place up and belittling the waiters.

It's common decency when you write a cheque for the damage though eh?

Get to fuck.

Who said anything about winning anything? Is rather a bizarre word to use really. Must be summat to do with that werid Tory mindset...

Fuck "winning" or "losing" - it's simply an outpouring of jubilation that the horrible old cunt is dead is all. When she exhaled her last breath the world became a slightly better place.
