hello! i'm new here, and despite the username, i'm actually a girl. currently trying to fight addiction to alcohol and oxys that i willingly got myself into for attention from my parents and to try and understand my addict sister. it's very fucked up and dumb, i'm aware. i'm currently seeking out help but am having the hardest time buying anything emotionally that i'm reading about recovery, so i came here to just soak in what everyone else has to say and provide information on. it's been an interesting time lurking, and i finally decided to make a name as i attempted quitting. currently a grad student and hoping i don't destroy everything i've built for myself. thank you guys for having me
 
Hi, Welcome to Bluelight! You're in the right place. How long have you been using opiates and alcohol? I've been there myself. Off opiates about a year. thank you so much! i've actually been off opiates for six months, but i'm not quite off drinking yet. i mean, i just had a drink two days ago, so i'm kind of not far in progress there. i've cut down my intake, but i still get bad urges and withdrawals for drinking... kind of really terrified to stop drinking, i don't know what i'll do to cope with depression otherwise. but it's worth trying. i'm looking around this place and it's amazing to me, the insight and the variety of experiences, perspective, methodology, self-awareness. i'm grateful a community like this exists.
 
Nice! Congratulations on 1/2 a year off opiates! That's a big accomplishment. Sometimes, at least for me it's hard to let the last grip we have go. I still have some vices myself in other areas. It takes what it takes, and you're moving forward regardless it seems. Keep it up and keep us informed. It is amazing here, I hope to spend more time soon myself on the boards. Lots of support indeed. :)
