Tetracylic ADs and booze, benzos

I was prescribed 10-30 mgs of Mianserin (a tetracyclic ad) by my doctor, and in the same breath he told me that I shouldn't drink while taking them.
Now, is this simply hysteria, or are there any serious interaction? Is Mianserin (and tetra/tricyclic ADs in general) in any way CNS depressants, which could be dangerous to mix with booze? I am also a casual user of benzos, and would like to know if tetracyclics and benzos go well together.

I've been on norpramine, a tricyclic, for some time. I think it definitely does have a synergistic effect with alcohol; one time, after just a couple of mixed drinks and two shots, I was suddenly hit *hard*, at least as much as by four or five shots.
I've checked the other data on norpramine, and it indeed has synergistic effects with other depressants, even though it raises the heartrate, interestingly enough.

While there CAN be complications, and while alcohol WILL have an effect, moderate drinking wont kill you... I will move this to med Q&A, perhaps you will get better info there...
