testing oxycodone dependence/addiction

I've been taking about 20 mg's of oxycodone almost every evening for a couple months. I haven't been taking them during the day at all though. I'm nervous about physical dependence, so recently went 48 hours without taking any. I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms, but I'm not sure if 48 hours is a long enough time for me to start getting withdrawal symptoms. I have 2 questions:

1) Is 48 hours enough for withdrawal symptms to start?

2) Will I be able to avoid physical dependence entirely since the drug is only in my system for 6 hours per day and since I'm taking a fairly small dose?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

1. Yes, usually it is. Since you're on a small dose, and it sounds like it may be your first taste of opiate dependence, it might not be noticeable yet and it won't be as intense as you might expect.

2. No. Also, eventually tolerance will kick in, and you'll have to adjust your dose. The larger your dose the faster you'll become dependent.

For oral oxycodone, I would assume so, I have no personal experience WDing from oxycodone, just heroin.

You could, but logic says no, just like phrozen did. The idea behind this is that eventually you will feel worse when you're not using (possibly, there is a small chance using 20mg of oxycodone once per day will never create a physical dependency for you, some people are lucky like this), or that the effects will not be as intense as they once were. Tolerance can be defined as needing more for the original effects you received from a drug, or receiving less effects from the same dose of a drug later in time. One, or both, of these are likely to happen to you if you continue using 20mg oxycodone every night.

Try taking some days off like you did, but more frequently. That should help things a little. :)

I use oxycodone on a regular basis, however at much higher doses. I do know that oxy w/d certainly does kick in at the 48 hour mark, usually before that.

Will you be able to avoid dependence? No, not if you continue using on a daily basis. IT WILL catch up with you. Your body will 'need' more of the substance to maintain the desired feeling. I'd take some time off (EVEN at that dose. Dose doesn't/shouldn't matter. It's about how often you use and why).

you've gotten some good feedback here already. for me, 48 hours is about when i start feeling it...getting sweaty, hot/cold and irritable/achy. you'll find that if you're taking 20mgs daily for a couple of weeks, it doesn't hit the spot anymore and before you know it, you're up to 60 or 80 and then you NEED it daily. just be careful and don't overdo it.

You will 100% eventually start to notice withdrawal effects, they will start small, like tiredness etc... and build up very slowly but they will bethere.

also, yes if withdrawals havnt started in 48 hours from oxy then they probably are not getting worse, generally people start to withdraw in like 8-24 hours , for me by 48 hours id be dyin lol.

yeah when i was on oxys wds always started at the beginning of the next day. i only needed to dose once a day to be alright for that day but as soon as i'd wake up the next day i would be in wds and they would just get worse until i would finally find a way to afford getting more. then i would dose and be fine, then the cycle continues.. forever. until you stop it.

Yep agreed Deezy. With Oxy's I'd always do a couple 80's in the morning, then another 1 or 2 in the afternoon so that I wouldn't wake up too sick. Heroin on the other hand, it seems like anytime I fell asleep, I'd wake up needing some. Sleep just seemed to use it up more.

yeah im guessing u are already dependent but its minor and you're simply not noticing it, 48h is usually long enough but because of dose and frequency its hard to tell, wait another 48h and im pretty sure you'll feel 'off' even if u dont realize its w/d, especially if youre smoking weed at the same time cause this can completely mask minor symptoms, either way you will become dependant eventually even if it takes longer than usual, it took me about 3 weeks of daily use of about 80mg to start feeling w/d, im pretty sure it varies from each person but dont be fooled into thinking its not gonna happen

Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like I need to start taking a few days off every couple weeks to really make sure I don't get hooked physically. I think I might already be hooked psychologically, because it was tough just to take 48 hours off.

Be glad you have only been taking 20mg's a day for a couple months, most people would start off at 20mg's a day and be up to 50-60+mg's a day in a couple months.

people think no matter what you will go in withdrawals from using opiates for pain, but if you only use it at a low dose as prescribed, and not longer than needed only once a day you will not get any of the hell when you quit using that say someone sniffing 7-10 30mg roxies a day like i was.

im too stoned and opiated out to do this post anymore.
