Testing meth

How do I check my meth to see if it's real
Where are you located?

If anywhere near Melbourne, you can head to the Victorian Pill Testing Service. You can remain anonymous using the service. Despite the name, the service is set up to analyse meth samples (or any other powdered / crystalline drugs). It can see any other drugs present or any fillers. It's open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, see https://www.vicpilltesting.org.au/

If anywhere near Canberra, you can pop into CanTEST which offers a similar service though using different equipment and different opening hours, see: https://cantest.com.au/

If none of these are accessible, you could look into reagent test kits which should be able to identify whether meth is or is not present, but depending on which tests are used, you may miss other components that are present. There are numerous online providers of kits, or some are sold in head shops / smoke shops. NUAA has a selection here: https://testkits.nuaa.org.au/

Indeed, but if you are already able to get to inner city Melbourne or Canberra, drug checking is free and confidential. And if you are worried about nitazenes or other contaminants, you can test for those things too (also free). DIY requires you buying, storing and using reagents and kits if you don't already have these.

My vision is for an Australia where we have a mail-in drug checking service that people can freely access. Yes, that means you need to wait for your results - a few days to receive the sample and get it through the lab - but then the results could be posted to a website and you can access the info with a code specific to your sample. Optionally you could call or text chat with a harm reduction specialist if you want further information tailored to your substance and your experience/circumstances.

Would people here use that? and would they use the website to browse results even if not submitting samples themselves?

Absolutely. That would be invaluable in itself.

Nitazenes are a concern and it would be interesting (and crucial from a health perspective) to see just how commonly they are showing up. I fear that Australia is going to mirror America where "heroin" is almost never actually diacetylmorphine but is instead fentanyl (according to users on this forum). Whether it ends up being fentanyl or nitazenes, I can unfortunately see the same thing happening here in Aus.

There are times where I am 99% positive that the H I have got has been cut with something active and very potent. It would be good to know what that actually is. I need to muster up the discipline to set aside a tiny amount of my suspect gear and take it to the pill testing centre.

Also, thank you Tronica for all this work you and many others have done and continue to do. Even though it is (in my opinion) an essential service, there is a lot of resistance to this kind of harm reduction in certain influential groups in Australia. No doubt you have had to work hard to earn every win along the way.

I don't doubt that they would do both.

Certainly WEDINOS here in UK is an excellent resource. Even though they can be a little slow in processing sometimes it is free so you can't really complain, eh?

Yes unfortunately we do not have a WEDINOS equivalent in Australia. On occasion, Australians have posted their substances for testing in Canada as well as to Spain, but the Canadian service has removed this option accessible to internationals, and while Energy Control is still open to us, it does take around 3-4 weeks and is not free (there's a copayment). A local mail-in service is needed!
