Based on what you said and how you said it, I'm almost positive you haven't read the thread.
1) we shouldn't be worried about HIV as we've tested and are now clean (although I guess there are those weird occurances that take even longer to show, but we tested pretty late so the results should be very solid)
2) The reason I cared if there was H in it is pretty simple. As said before, I use H (when time permits, and when I can even find any. I'm a 'dabbler' in H, never shot it, only insufflated, and not that many times, under 20 total in my life over the past 2 years would be quite a safe over estimate). Not only that, but her accidentally stepping on a needle with H, even a full rig, really wouldn't be that scary in terms of heroin intake - the odds of her hitting a vein straight on, fully depressing a shot w/o the needle moving from a vein, even if it were a full rig the odds she'd get high would be low. If she did get high, she'd deal with it (she likes getting high, just not on opiates. She enjoys pot, psychedelics, mdma, etc, just not a fan of opiates).

The reason I wanted to know if there was H was very simple - the needle was an uncapped, tossed needle in front of a pawn store. I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that if a needle was tossed (uncapped) in front of a pawn store, it was by a reckless IV drug user, and not an asshole diabetic. Now, out of those two crowds that would likely compromise who tossed the needle, which group do you think would be a higher risk group for HIV? (can't believe I even had to explain that, it just seems so common sense )

My fiance accidentally stepped on a needle in front of a pawn shop. Will a CVS drug test kit be able to tell us if there was heroin in it? If it can't, can anyone recommend one that will?

Other people have probably brought this up by now but what does it matter if there was H in the needle? Why don't you just ask the question you want to ask.

(and to go a little further, doesn't common sense already answer the question of why I'd want to try to discern whether it was a junkie's needle or a diabetic's needle when trying to evaluate her risk level?)

You're correct, it is because I was nervous, and also just because of my life experiences - I've never seen or known anyone who's used needles for anything besides heroin. So yes, it was just a knee jerk reaction. I definitely should've said 'testing for the presence of drugs', but like you said I was rushing (in fact, my father was typing what I was saying for me as I told him over the cell from the hospital), and heroin is just what came to mind - I wasn't trying to single out heroin and make it seem like its users are any more or less likely to have HIV than other IV drug users. I don't think you read much of the thread, but I'm not a heroin hater - I enjoy heroin very much myself.

I'm not sure if you worded that the way you meant to. I never asked the question "why would it matter if it was H in the needle", other people here did. And again, it would matter, although I could've phrased it better (testing for IV drugs, versus testing for H alone). It would matter because, if a needle was found laying uncapped in front of a pawn shop, it's either
A) a careless IV drug user (which would probably be the type of IV user who would be even more likely to engage in risky behavior leading to HIV), or
B) an accidental needle dropped by a diabetic.
Clearly there's a higher chance of it having been used by an HIV+ person if the needle was left by someone in group A versus group B.

About it being answered multiple times, the only reason it had to be answered multiple times was because people kept asking the same question. If you read through the thread, you'll see that I clearly explain this, yet people (yourself included) keep coming in, w/o reading the thread in its entirety, and ask the question again. So, being a dumbass who likes to explain things properly, I re-explain my reasoning (like I just did in this post - and the post directly above the one where you came in with the question).
