This growlog won't be updated with lot's and lot's of pictures, it's more of a diary. Currently doing a testgrow with my own Orange bud seeds, polinated a cutting last year, checking to see what the outcome of that will be.

First off the heritage of the seeds came out of two OB phenotypes. I simply called them OB#1 and OB#2. OB#1 looked like this:

OB#2 looked like this:

I pollinated both of them 2 years ago with a male OB, but that failed, I only ended up with a couple of viable seeds out of both. Last year I germinated 2 OB#1 seeds and 3 OB#2 seeds. Unfortunately I didn't end up with a female OB#1, but 3 males, 1 pretty much with an identical stature, smell and flowering pattern as the female OB#1. Out of the other 3 OB#2 seeds all ended up as females, 1 of them pretty much identical to the mother as well. So I ended up with 2 lovely parents, pollinated one of the cuttings I took from the mother and ended up with approximately a thousand seeds.

This was the clone mother:

Unfortunately I don't have clear pictures of the male in flowering, but this is how it looked early on:

So far so good. I germinated 20 seeds 3 weeks ago and 19 sprouted. Intentionally picked out some white-ish seeds, but only one of them didn't live. It already looks like they've inherited most of the genes from the mom, similar growing pattern, short and bushy. Nothing bad about that, but I wish they've had a little more OB#1 in them, those are able to grow outside perfectly, the OB#2 rots away too fast due to the bud structure, it also tastes less "kushy", something I really liked about the #1. The seedlings all look alike, no differences yet, pretty stable so far, I'm just dying to see how they'll flower.

Currently they're almost 3 weeks old and residing in 2 litre pots with regular potting soil. Only sprayed them with some fish emulsion, gave them a dose of root-stimulator and some spore elements. First pic is at 2 weeks, 2nd is of their 3rd week. I'ts a shitty cam, but I'll try to persuade my friend to regularly check in on them with his better camera. They'll need re-potting, which I'll see to tomorrow or the day after. It'll be 16 7 litre pots, with a mix of regular potting soil and cocopeat upgraded with pre-mix.

cool. it will be interesting to see how the buds turn out.

is this going to be an indoor, since you said they didn't take on the characteristics of the strain that was best outdoors?

Thanks all. Regular indoor clam. I would've preferred it if they could also be grown outside though, atm it doesn't look like it, since they've inherited most of their genes from the mom (OB#2), which produces thick, dense buds, as opposed to more slender, sativa-ish buds from the OB#1. But doesn't really matter, I'm happy with this as well.

Forgot to add, for anyone interested, it's a simple set-up with a 400W HPS.

good work. very nice. whats a decent yield from a 400w hps for 1 cycle?

A decent yield would be ~200, a great yield would be ~300, outstanding result would be ~400 grams, but that's so hard to accomplish with 400 watts, it's easier to average 1 gr per watt with a 600 or a 1000W HPS, those are more efficient. I'm aiming for a yield above the 250 at least next grow indoors, depending on what strain I'll choose to grow, anything below that number would be dissapointing. This time it doesn't really matter much, it's simply to check out how they'll grow.

maybe you could name the next lot OB-1 Kinobe....?sorry thats just my twisted humour.....nice effort and good luck....
its always good when you can find strains that are almost equally as good in as out...!i find that if you just use indoor cutings outdoors (indica or sativa crosses etc) and put them out l8 in the season (8 or 9 weeks) that this is pretty similar to having them under a 400w light anyways......
i feelwith o/d less riskthe better and i sacrifice quantity for quality everytime...

Thanks. The Orange buds won't get a new name, but if I had to, I would call them "BOB", Blowmonkey's orange buds.

So, the plants and buds look absolutely beautiful. But, ... why are they "orange buds?" They don't really have an orange tint in the picture... :)

it sure as hell looks like you know what your doing man. keep up the god work, sory i dont anything bout growing bud or id throw in my two cents.

Because when they ripen the pistils turn orange. They do with all plants, but I wasn't the one who came up with the name.

Found out I only had 13 7 litre pots left, probably gave the other 3 away. The growshop didn't have any 7 litres and neither did the gardening centre, bought some 5 litres instead, those have the same diameter, simply placed the plants a little higher on top of the soil so they'd be level with the other plants. They've had 1 days to recover from the re-potting, turned the clock to 12/12 4 days ago. Didn't re-pot 4 plants, want to keep every plant in there before I know what sex they are, this way that's possible.

Damn you switch to 12/12 much earlier than me. ;)

I am sure they will end up at least 3+ feet at harvest though.

What do you pull per plant?

About 2 ounces?

I shoot for 6'+ plants with 8+ ounces, but that is with a 1000W and minimal plant numbers + twice the wasted veg time.

Looks like you got a 400W more than covered with so many plants regardless of size.

Wish I could try SOG, damn your lucky with your political climate.
