Alright, I need some opinions:

I tested a pill with the marquis (eztest) and it turned black. Rather than move through the blue/purple stages, though, it looked brown first, then black and appeared to be "muddy" or brownish around the edges (especially when spreading the liquid out over the plate, trying to find blue)

When I tested it with the Simons, it turned bright blue instantly.

So am I dealing with a methbomb here or is it possible that it's mdma based on the black/brown eztest results? I know that other (mdxx) pills I've tested have turned pretty obviously purple before appearing black so I just wanted to get an idea of what you guys thought.

thanks!

MDMA + meth seems pretty likely, but it's impossible to call it for sure. It wouldn't be a bad idea to test your marquis reagent with an aspirin - it's working properly if the reaction color is red.

According to PhreeX's list (the only source I can find which lists a Marquis RXN for ephedrine), that could be. He listed the RXN for ephedrine as being "yellow to yellowish brown."

The document I'm referring to used to be posted in this forum once upon a time, but seems to be gone now.

There's very little on it not listed in more detail in the Erowid document. Also, it contains at least one error, claiming a Marquis reaction for cocaine, which, according to Easy E, should not cause a reaction.
