Test kit help

I know there is many other test kit threads but this is pretty urgent as me and molly have a date tonight. I purchased a mecke test kit today and tested my test kit on some sugar, it should go a brilliant yellow but went a thin black then turned really light orange nearly yellow. Does this mean my kit is useless and if not does it change the reaction to MDXX?

It should go yellow first then to orange.

If your kit isnt working on sugar then its not going to work on anything else really.

would like to add when i just drop a drop onto ceramic the colour if the liquid isnt clear its clear with a black tinge. I take it this isnt normal.

Not at all, it should be clear or maybe with a slight tint!
