If it were legal there wouldn't be any residential drug labs....

Ten children found living in drug dens

Ten children were found living at houses during police raids across the Wellington region that uncovered hidden weapons, buried drugs, a P lab and a heavily fortified base.

Police raided 32 properties in Wellington, the Hutt Valley, Wairarapa and Kapiti, arresting 30 people, disrupting a P lab, and seizing more than $60,000 in cash, a handgun, methamphetamine, cannabis, ecstasy, LSD and GBL.

The children - particularly a 3-year-old found in an Upper Hutt methamphetamine laboratory - were the most alarming discovery for police, Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said.

"The child shouldn't be in the meth lab; that's one of the real high-risk places."

Nine other children of school age or younger were found in raided properties across the region.

The 3-year-old in the P lab, believed to have been run by a Head Hunters gang associate, might have been exposed to dangerous and volatile chemicals, Leitch said. All the children were referred to Child, Youth and Family.

At several homes, the drug manufacturers and dealers had gone to great lengths to keep their activities hidden, Leitch said.

One home in Maungaraki, Lower Hutt, was heavily fortified, with spy cameras, a heavy steel door and grille.

A 10-litre paint can buried in the back yard of a Masterton property contained 800g of cannabis in 1-ounce bags, with more waiting to be packaged.

Cannabis was also found hidden in a slow cooker in the kitchen of another Masterton property, he said.

At a property in Waikanae, a .22-calibre pistol was stashed in a "purpose-built hidey hole" cut into the furniture.

It is believed the raids have put a considerable dent in the illegal operations of the Head Hunters gang, in particular.

"The thing that comes out clearly, there's the link to the one group," Leitch said.

It is understood the group referred to is the Head Hunters, based in Upper Hutt, with two patched members and several associates arrested during the raids.

Hutt Valley area commander Inspector Mike Hill said the Head Hunters were a major concern because of their violent crimes.

"They are committing offences that are staying under the radar of the public - high-level violence within the criminal networks."

The Head Hunters expanded to Wellington from Auckland in September last year, setting up a now-defunct cage-fighting base in Upper Hutt.

Gavin Johnston, 39, understood to be a patched member, was arrested at a home in Akatarawa Rd, Upper Hutt. He is understood to be one of three Head Hunters denied entry to Thailand last October.

Shit what is with GHB/GBL being so popular?!?! I've been offered GHB at least 3-4 times by a variety of people. I've yet to try it.... I don't see the point really (I am prescribed alprazolam), but still... how the fuck is it so popular? There's like 1,000 other drugs I'd rather have on hand instead of GBL if I had LSD, MDMA, meth, and weed, and a handgun and cash.

The 3-year-old in the P lab, believed to have been run by a Head Hunters gang associate, might have been exposed to dangerous and volatile chemicals, Leitch said.

...and somewhere in New Zealand, thousands of miles away form me, a captain is born.

It's not something I'm interested in ever taking personally, but here in Oz it's pretty popular apparently, especially in Melb, they have a pretty big problem with it, especially at raves and festivals, with some events having many people dropping off it. And quite a few deaths there and in Syd too, I believe. Havent seen many busts or deaths from it in the last yr or so tho.

Don't knock it til you've tried it. For a lot of people it's more euphoric than alcohol with less side effects, & not as blackout-happy as benzos when dosed properly. Hence the popularity.

I agree, i prefer Ghb to alcohol. Shame i dont have any. Its euphoric a bit in the same way as alcohol but the euphoria ia alot more clean and less incapacitating,i dont have a hangover also after. Problem is often black out and dont remember shit because i keep taking caps and at one moment itsj ust a black hole and i wake up in some weird place. I tried ghb + clonazepam + a bit of beer and it was amazing, but the beer was too much in my opinion it made the high way too drowsy. Sorry for my tiping but im wasted and yeah ghb rules lol

Exactly, it's all the positive effects of alcohol with a fraction of the negative ones. What's not to like? IMO it's the most recreational of the GABA depressant style drugs. Just a shame about the shitty dosing.

The dosing part is the part that puts me off wanting to ever try it, seems from what I've read if you have too much (too quickly?) you can possibly OD and die, alcohol i've had too much of plenty of times and I've never come close to OD'ing or dying.

To be frank, poledriver, I don't know of anyone who has died from od'ing on juice, (without other factors playing a part).
Without intending to trivialise a blow out (which is, I suppose technically an OD), they are horrid things to watch, but for the most part, folks come out the other side without having been aware that they were out.
However, when they happen in a public place, the ambos must be called, as a duty of care and legal responsibility, and hence we get to hear about x amount of ODs in a particular night/region.
With responsible use,( which isn't always easy, especially with inexperienced users), I find it probably my favourite of anything.
So much so, that if I have a bottle of J and a g of meth, the meth will go largely untouched till the G is gone, (however, they are an awesome combo)

It's the same problem you have with all illegal depressants: inexact dosing. I'd imagine if it were sold in regulated, highly diluted beverages primarily consumed without combination with other drugs, it would be safer than alcohol. It's absolutely possible to use safely even as a street drug if you measure your dose precisely and carefully ascertain the purity of each new batch before diving into the deep end with it. The deaths it causes are the result of combining it with other downers (usually alcohol) or people being lax with the dosing and just sipping it out a drink bottle or something similar.

(however, they are an awesome combo)

This. It's far and away the best downer to combine with amphetamines (really nice with MDMA too). It doesn't drown out the high like benzos, or result in the compulsive see-saw re-dosing you get when you drink heavily on stimulants.

bunnymunro I don't know anyone personally who has died of it either, but I've read enough articles to know it happens and some of the articles I've read have been people in nightclubs, at homes, at raves, at festivals, not all have died, but some have and all have needed medical assistance, but as you and crankinit explained if it's taken right it is fun and a nice drug by the sounds of it. It's just one of those things for me, since i'm not around it at all and haven't got friends who do it, I wouldnt fuck with it since I may fuck up. But if the doses were set, kind of like how a pharmaceutical pill is set for example then I may try it, it's something that kind of scares me as I dont want to blow out, like I dont want to goto a level where I may need medical assistance to be ok, one of the reasons I'm not keen to try heroin either. I know alot of users will think this kind of view is naive or silly and I will miss out on experiencing a certain type of high, but it's just something I dont do, im not even keen on trying oxy ever again, as it just made me feel itchy and nearly spew and I didn't find it pleasant at all.

Pole driver, not thinking that you are naive at all. Horses for courses, and all the more for me! And doses do vary, generally governed by a person's physical make up, size and experience. There is no real one size fits all. Though if they came in little soy sauce fishes they would be perfect for me under most circumstances.
This has gotten way off topic.

Yes, send the kids to daycare if you're going to have a cook.

not as blackout-happy as benzos when dosed properly. Hence the popularity.

Oh, so if you don't like blacking out and you like to stay up and feel the effects you'd probably like it? Because if I'm using benzos to get messed up my aim is to get totally blacked out by the end of it. Just my 2 cents.

I still plan on trying it, but I have no pressure/rush to trying it since I have temazepam/alprazolam at disposal, and some gabaergics are not that good for me (alcohol, clonazepam). I also didn't care too much for soma either.

Thanks for the input on why it's so popular though sekio. I really appreciate the info, very helpful in understanding the trend with it.
