temazapam anxiety relief dosage with no tolerance

I just read a bit about this medicine and have a question. Ok I have no tolerance for benzos, I rarely ever take them, ive taken xanax a few times in the past to relieve anxiety, Ive never taken more than 2mg's at once, and last time I ever took it was at least a month ago.

I just got ahold of a few 7.5 capsules of this temazapam and read that it is relatively weak compared to other benzos like xanax, and ppl would often talk about using 75+ mg of this at once to get the same effect as say a 2mg xanax bar. That would be like taking 10 of these 7.5's I have which sounds crazy.

My question is, since I have little to no tolerance to benzos, how many of these should I take to get the same anxiety relief as just 1mg of xanax? I have 6 of these 7.5's and I dont want to waste all of them at once if I dont need that much, but I dont want to only take a couple and it not work and be left with 4, if that makes sense.

It's a low potency benzo, but it is high on its activity on the receptors. Much more sedative-hypnotic than Xanax. 30 mg will be enough to get you to sleep. If you're looking for a buzz, take 60-90 mg. Charts say that 0.5 mg alprazolam = 20 mg temazepam, but at these doses temazepam has stronger sedative-hypnotic properties, stronger anticonvulsant properties, stronger amnesic properties, stronger muscle relaxant properties, but alprazolam has stronger anxiolytic properties.
 
40mg of Temazepam is equivalent to 1mg of alprazolam. Personally I'd recommend you just take 30mg, its a good starter dose. You'll get the full effects from it and not pass out immediately. If you can handle 2mg of Xanax you'll be able to handle 30mg of temazepam.

Temazepam is a hypnotic so its intention is to knock you out, not provide anxiety relief. Its best to take them at night before you go to sleep. It'll help relax your muscles and mind before going to sleep. Temazepam is one of my favorite benzodiazepines. Its a great hypnotic, doesn't have too short of a half-life, excellent anti-convulsant and for a hypnotic its a good anxiolytic which most hypnotics aren't.

So give 30mg a try. Just my opinion.
 
^^What these guys said. Temazepam is more hypnotic, and was designed to put you to sleep (it does a great job of its intended purpose). This is in contrast to Xanax (alprazolam) or Valium, which were designed as anti-anxiety benzos.
 
He got the 7.5 mg Restoril's. They were given to him for anxiety. Anxiolytic doses of temazepam I'd say start at start at 7.5-15 mg, but if he is looking to use them recreationally then 30 mg is ok. I think it's too strong of a benzo to be given for anxiety, that's why the doctor wrote you 7.5 mg capsules.

Temazepam is stronger than alprazolam in all effects except anxiolysis - so tread carefully and don't mix with alcohol or any other CNS depressants.

He never said he was given or prescribed it for anxiety relief. He asked how much should he take to get the same anxiety relief of alprazolam. I think he is misinformed about Temazepam and thinks that it is an anxiolytic of some sort. No doctor I've ever heard of prescribed temazepam for anxiety-relief. While its an okay anxiolytic there are so many other options that are purposely prescribed for anxiety and before you'd get proper anxiety relief you'd be taking high doses that would just have you pass out.

Personally I think Temazepam is an OK anxiolytic compared to other hypnotics. You'd have to take low doses if you didn't want to pass out and at these doses its not effective as an anxiolytic so higher doses would be needed and at this point you'd be starting to nod out.
 
^Either way, 20 mg temazepam is equal to 0.5 mg in terms of anxiolysis because those charts are anxiolysis based.
 
Since you have six, and have no benzo tolerance, I advise you take 3 capsules which would equal 22.5 mg temazepam. Temazepam has nice hypnotic properties, and will induce overall sedation. The 22.5 mg temazepam might not provide the anxiolysis 2 mg alprazolam would, but they are different benzos with different effects. Many say temazepam is their preferred out of all the benzos, and even euphoric. I have not yet been able to try any myself, but look forward to the chance.

22.5 mg might have you asleep if you allow it, but don't think it would knock you out cold. I wouldn't take more or less if I were you and wanted a pretty decent benzo experience for someone with no tolerance. Enjoy.
 
alright well I went ahead and took 3 of them right after reading your post. How long will it take to take effect and what feelings should I look for to happen when it kicks in? Just drowsiness?
 
Temazepam is the most rapidly absorbed benzo, but the capsules really hamper the time it takes for it to kick in. Give it 30 minutes. Expect sedation, relaxation, general mood uplift.
 
It shouldn't take too long to kick in, not exactly sure to be honest. You will feel relaxed, mentally and physically, calm, probably somewhat sleepy. Some report euphoria with temazepam, but like I said I have never had the oppurtunity to try it. It is a real favorite among benzo aficionados. For the first time it should be nice and floaty, like benzos used to be for me. Just expect good relaxation, and calmness. Anxiety relief of course too.
 
Yes, euphoria comes with higher doses then what he took. But you never know - he is a beginner afterall.
 
I remember when I first took Xanax in a social enviroment. Just 0.5 mg and it was so floaty and free with mood lift, now 1.5 mg just calms me down nicely. Tolerance is a bitch.
 
well I do actually feel relaxed a bit and I notice I feel much calmer compared to earlier when I first posted. I played some guitar hero and when I missed a note while trying to 100% a song, I found myself just choosing "retry" instead of flipping out and throwing the controller like I normally would lol. I think they are working. How long will this med work for me before wearing off?
 
It is hard to say how long the effects may last, though some may linger. It will last for a fair while I'd say, at least like 4 hours for best effects, but could be longer. Like I said the effects wear off slowly, just enjoy the temazepam, and don't worry about when they will wear off. Temazepam is prescribed to help maintain sleep, not just induce it, so its effects have to last long enough for someone to get a good nights rest. It isn't a super short acting benzo, or a really long one.
 
alright I was helped out by my friend with 6 more of these. When I feel the effects of them wear off, is it ok to take more right off the batt or will these things build up in my system and cause me problems? I think the next time I take any I might want to take a couple more than last time because although I felt a bit relaxed, I could use a little more effect from it to have that same relaxed feeling that I would get from xanax. Should I take all 6 of these things which would be I think 45mg?
 
If this post paints me as pompous, so be it. But.

Do you not believe you should be doing more research into chemicals you ingest, prior to ingesting them? In the time I've been a member of this community, it has been my understanding that we are a harm reduction community, and not here to give someone who has taken a drug for the first time play-by-play updates on what they may or may not experience, such as "What dose is equivalent?" followed by "what will I feel?" followed shortly by "how long will it last?" - the latter two questions asked only *after* the drug has been swallowed.

Sorry, but this type of drug use gets me angsty because of its implications with more powerful and/or lesser-known drugs and chemicals out there. It's irresponsible, despite the safety profile of benzodiazepines in this one particular case.

ok well I just went ahead and emptied the medicine from 6 of these 7.5mg capsules and took it with water. Thats I think 45mg, I should be ok.
