telling your doc you do drugs?

i let my doctors know everything. Hell, i chose my ADD meds (dexadrine). My shrink knew i had a history of amp usage but could also tell that there was a good chance i knew more about it than he and even though he tried to go with the concerta/adderall jittery shitty meds all it took was 30 seconds of words like l-isomer, insomnia, jitters, etc....and he knew i was on point and knew i was right and also probably suspected i might abuse them every once in a while but shit he was smart enough to realize putting me on some shitty excuse for a medication like stratera concerta or adderal and having the potentiol abuse anyways was worth just going with the better med. A good doctor can respect your knowledge of perscription drugs, even if the knowledge came through abuse they will recognize your problems and also recognize that you know how to take the perscribed dosage and still use other drugs recreationaly without killing yourself :).
 
It shouldn't matter how well informed a patient is about prescribed or illegal drugs but it can help both the patient and perhaps the practitioner.

The doctor is responsible for choosing medications that are appropriate for the individual whether the patient agrees or not.

I cringe when patients come in saying what they think I should be doing or what they think they should be on. What the hell do you need me for? For a signature on a script? Someone to put you back together when your own drug cocktail goes awry?

Sometimes that type of patient behaviour and bit of knowledge screams drug seeker/abuser even if they are not.
 
^^^well it also helps if the doctor knows that you are looking for help and not just an easy high, and i truly do not support tricking doctors into giving you mad scripts, even though some will do it without you even asking =/.
 
Just like the people in this thread, i've learned my lesson when it comes to commenting on my drug use to doctors. The ignorance of some people with a MD license is absolutely astounding and crushing, given that there are so many people who understand the material much better than themselves.

For example, i once had a doctor advise me to stop smoking cannabis and pick up tobacco as a replacement (no joke, happened just this summer)
 
I've worked as a nurse to thousands of patients since 1986 ok. My experience is anyone that admits to recreational use or frequent use is like some people commented way back in this thread, you're labeled as a "junkie," therefore less important. AND they document all this shit, they have to, that's their job, and often times they will put an alert on the chart that says "Caution: Drug seeking behavior." Forget about ever getting any type of controlled substance even tylenol 3, for legitimate pain, cause 95% this is the exact amount of Rx dope you will get: ZERO = 0. Any questions?
 
practical everyday experience tells me to lie to a fucking doctor everytime. the only thing you have to lose is prejudice.

i've been labeled with this type of abuse and when i saw what kind of a box they putting me in on permanent record, they can go to hell. society sees you as a criminal and will treat you accordingly.
 
Told a trusted doctor about my overuse of X and weed bc I was experiencing a shitload of anxiety. He told me the obvious about the the dangers ra-ra-ra and prescribed me Xanax to control it. Wierd, I still use X and weed but I have not gone bananas with Xanax (totally addictive). I guess I keeps the Xannies for when I need it just in case I can't get another prescription. That doc does not practice anymore and I have not told my new doc anything bc I do not trust him yet... i don't know if I ever will. My drug use is also winding down as i have found new ways of enjoying myself without them (as much)
 
Stop blaming the doctors, your the ones who choose to go to them. If you suffer anxiety (and I do) then you should really go to a psychiatrist or pychologist as they are more equipped to deal with these sorts of problems.

If you asked a plumber to change a light globe, he may well install sprinklers as well.

Anyway, just go to the right specialist for advice.
 
In my post I was refering to all kinds of people you see when you're sick.

And to be honest, I think psychiatrists suck more. I mean... a psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in treating mentally ill people. Need I say more? I have a special disdain for psychiatrists in particular.

its not about the specialist, its about the basic care you recieve with a doctor, who should or should not know about your drug use since they diagnose and prescribe you things. specialists are not nessesary when your a healthy person, working, going to school, living a 'normal' happy life while doing drugs. its for those who have a mental illness whether or not they use drugs and need help to cope.
 
man i straight told my shrink i have/had a tolerance to amphetamines before he prescribed. They will have faith in people, and my doctors probably documented my history of smoking marijuanna "chronicly", use of amphetamines, and a line of other drugs...And although i do still enjoy uppers, i rarely abuse my medication...infact the only time i can think of actually calling it "abuse" is ONE time i took ONE extra pill later at night because i had to work late (as i did tonight and once again managed to prove to myself that the meds are benefits and not necessities which is part of the reason i will continue them...if i feel it is becoming a necessity it ends at that moment). Once your doctor gets to know you, if you are honest with them they will trust you more when you tell them you will not abuse. My new doctor even upped my dose and all i had to say was the meds werent doing anything at all for me anymore...and this wasnt a crock to get my drugs (i dont need a prescription to get high if i wanna get high) i really was feeling that same spacyness i used to get without my meds. While completely managable without the meds, it is still easier to use them and not have to worry about zoning out so much. Anyways im rambling too much caffiene (now thats abuse right there), the point is both of these doctors are good doctors not out to sell drugs but to help people, and they just happen to both place an amazing amount of faith in some1 already labled a "junkie". While it is true that society lables us as such, it is our responsibilty to show them that we are not just out to get high all the time and are interested more in theraputical use than catching a buzz. IDK how many people will talk to a doctor in the way that I do, but it works PERFECTLY. My doctor knows the substances going into my body and therefore is better equipped to help me cope with my "disorders" (even though i still think ADD is a seperate "order" of thinking rather than an illness or "disorder). Im done rambling but i really do recommend talking to your doctor about drug abuse. It does NOT matter if you are labled blah blah blah and cant get the meds you want, because to be honest none of us NEED the meds in my opinion. They are definitly an extremely usefull tool though when used and not abused (in which case they go from a tool to a weapon if you follow my annalogy). Night

"WHAAAT? You used DRUGS!?!?? WHY?"

was sort of hard to answer, wasnt expecting that reaction, i just said i donno. she told my parents i have something to tell them. my parents asked what. i didnt mention anything drug related, but i tihnk my dr wanted me to tell them

she went fucking nuts and kept interrogating me and lecturing me

is this flag only within that particular clinic? or can other doctors see it?
 
Young does not always equal dumb. It's like saying that people who use drugs are not treated fairly by docs who have knowledge of that patient's drug history :\

Generalizations and stereotypes are not the rule in any situation. Dumb bitch is a little harsh.
 
^that doc was just ignorant in my opinion. she shouldnt have said anything to the parents neither should she have reacted like that. imagne if you were schitzo and a doctor said "WHAT!?!?" i mean, that just isnt a good reaction for ANYthing.
 
sounds strange that a doctor in their 40s wouldnt have come across quite a few drug users as patients
