Tell us about the last film you watched, mate!

Made

The overall feeling I had towards this one... meh. Literally, meh. It had a few funny moments, but lackluster. Normally I like Vince Vaughn, but in this one he wasn't annoyingly funny, he was just annoying. And Jon Favreau is not lead actor material, I'm glad he stays behind the camera these days.

Martyrs

Didn't like it and didn't finish it.
I hear about this movie all the time. It is in my netflix queue. Supposedly it is well done, despite being associated with the shockfest genre. but i am strongly of the opinion that if a movie is going to show me something disturbing, it has to earn it (e.g. Happiness, Requiem..., etc). Every time I give one of these cult followed shock movies a chance, I have such low expectations and am still horribly disappointed. Now hearing that you did not even finish, I doubt Martyrs will ever make it to the top of my ever turning, ever growing queue.

Only shockfest movie I've ever considered well done is Dogtooth.

^ Agreed, maybe its age or something but I would rather get something from a film, rather than be left with some sensational, hype from it. I used to love horror but now i've become a grumbly, cranky, sarcastic being when it comes to alot of Contemporary, Horror or Shock movies. I dunno if this is down to whether the essence of what was 80's-90's Horror, has not been re-produced in contemporary one's and inevitably meant that these films lost that Mojo, or whether I am just getting older and more stagnant in my ways.

I am watching this right now

pretty good so far, and kind of sad

Intersesting, never heard of it till now, food for thougt and viewing. :)

Enjoyable!
As a kid, I could never figure out why someone would make a Film based on someone goin to work! ;)
Ya, the 80's was a time alright!
*Note there always seems to be an open window, enabling the curtains to be blown in an undulating motion behind the couples having Sex, in nearly EVERY movie in the 80's!:D

The Tenant

I liked it. A lot. Though the audio was fucking terrible on the DVD version I watched--to the point of having a significant negative impact of my viewing experience.

The girl in this movie is sex. Molly mouth. Her character was so nice too...
That he could have lived out the rest of his life in bed with her, even if it would have been as her girlfriend or whatever was going on in this movie, makes it all the more tragic he couldn't keep it together. So sad when he messes up her apartment
.

this movie reminded me big time of Altman's 3 Women.

Also confirmed how much I can't stand Forrest Whittaker at all in any film ever. The guy gets on my nerves.

Huh, same here. :\

I haven't seen a performance by Ben Foster that I didn't like

Again, same. :)

This was on TV last night, and as usual I only caught the end. I've seen it loads of times before though. I remember all the praise Charlize Theron got for her performance at the time, but watching it now it just seems way OTT. I mean, she got her mannerisms down and everything, but it's almost a bit too much. I dunno. I still enjoy watching it. It's hard to believe it's like 8 years old now though. 8o

The Bridge on the river Kwai

Another great film remastered onto Blu-Ray

Always love that flick.

And tg, I've been wanting to see Monster for ages...just couldn't get around to it. It's weird, having grown up in FL during the time she was doing that shit. I suppose I'm looking to understand a bit more.

So, me...lately..:

The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
I liked it, as being cute. I particularly appreciated the homage to Disney's cartoon about it, and the line Mr. Cage speaks about the car missing him. But all in all, none of the actors felt very good in their performance, and it really underscored Mr. Cage as an overcast under skilled actor. Meh.

The Midnight Meat Train (2008)
Looking for a taste of horror, and while there was good music and lots of blood, this just wasn't that good. Oh, I've watched a lot worse, and commented on them in this thread, but I suppose here's my problem. I like Vinnie Jones, but his role wasn't all that - lots of screen time, but ... not much to him. Likewise the lead was very predictable in how he went thru the plot (if there was much of one). They could have just cut it down to the last 20 min, and spun it off as a Tales From the Crypt (though less campy). No substance to this film, so even if your looking for blood, I'd not recommend it.

You should watch it, along with the documentary Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer. I really dislike Nick Broomfield, but it's a worthwhile watch if you're into that kinda thing. :)

edit: the whole she-bang's on youtube if you're interested. I was just gonna post the trailer, but what the hell. :)

Spider Baby

much fun.

"It's dead. We don't eat dead things."

"Now the spider does a little dance for the bug. She has to tease him, and torment him. And make him wiggle. So that his juice will taste better."
"...Virginia, I think we better play another game."

That Monster poster looks SOOOOOOO photoshopped! These film companies have unlimited payrolls, you'd think they could hire someone to do a better job of cut/paste.

Robin Hood (2010)
Long. Decent themery (sets, clothes, etc). Weak on story. Overall.....meh. Not shit, but I still wasted my time. And the ending...setting it up for Pt 2? Fuck you, I'll keep my money.

Resident Evil Afterlife (2010)
Now, I'm not a die hard fan of the franchise, so I have lower expectations than some. Still, meh. Some hot chic-ness to it, some special effects...but bottom line, they should have stopped with an earlier one...and of course it's still open to more sequels. :|

On good authority, I'll now move Monster to the top of the list ;)
