A Serbian Film (2010)
Okay, after watching "Neighbor" from my earlier comments, I saw where someone on IMBD was telling reviewers that "Neighbor" was like a kid show when it came to being disturbing if compared to "A Serbian Film". So, with that, I said what the heck...let's watch.
The first time I saw se7en, it scarred me pretty bad - specifically the knife-fuck-kill situation. It just was wrong on so many levels that it really bothered me for several weeks. That's always been my 'most disturbing film' that I'd seen - as most of the other horror or suspense type crap I watch you are always in the 'just a movie' mode, and not really considering it could happen. Well, I have to say on a scale of 1-10, se7en was probably a seven or eight, and this Serbian Film is like a 12 or 13....it is seriously, seriously, major fucked up kinda disturbing.
The story revolves around a retired porn star, who now has a wife and kid (maybe age 8?). He's got a brother who's an asshole, always lusting for the lead's wife and being jealous of the family the lead was able to build. So one day, an old friend from the industry shows up, has lunch with our lead, and makes an offer to do one last film that will set his family up financially. Our lead asks his wife, she's okay with it, and off we go into utter mind-fuck hell.
It turns out the film maker won't tell our lead the content or direction of the film, and just puts him in scenes (really, for porn, do you need a script?), each scene being progressively more disturbing. I almost wrote a big rundown on some of the scenes, but I can sum it up with this - the film turns out to be incestuous snuff porn as a theme, with a super fucked up death (the female that got him into the film) just before the end, and a few ugly twists you could probably see coming...but couldn't help but feel gut wrenched a bit, and upset about at the end.
Now all of this could very well have happened - I'll give credit that it was a very believable acting job by the lead, and really most of the cast. So much so that it is taking me days to get back to the "just a movie" mode....but somewhere inside you have to think this stuff is really happeningPerhaps not some of the more extreme stuff (such as the baby scene), but most of what our lead is subjected to....yeah. Really.Fucked.Up.
This is very much not a film to watch for the nudity or sex. While there is some nudity, it all goes along the lines of soft porn - not much to get excited about. Moreover, the other aspects of the sex scenes will probably put you off sex for awhile in general. There's some violence, but mostly tolerable (says the man who's come to enjoy SAW and other such 'bloody death' films). The special effects are limited, but believable. And like I said, it's probably the lead actor, and the excellent job he did with the role that put this over the top into "wow, that could happen".
I would recommend this as a 'good movie', but only if you really believe you are strong minded and able to cope with the disturbing aspects of the film. My "what the heck, lets check it out" brought me in unprepared for the effects it had on me.
Another good review if you like
this was a fucked up movie. i watched it last night with a few friends. i shared your review with one friend, the other two had no idea what to expect. we were all fairly speechless by the end of the movie. unglued says i am no longer allowed to pick movies for movie night

it took me a moment to process what was happening in the scene with the newborn. that was definitely a wtf point in the film.
and while i had a fairly good idea of what was going to happen in the final sex scene, it was still uncomfortable to watch.
