Teens being hospitalized after drinking hand sanitizer

you know what's odd about that list? Ibuprofen is #1

also, I think Tylenol should have a HUGE label saying:

WARNING: EXCEEDING THE RECOMMENDED DOSE MAY LEAD TO A SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH

US teens 'getting drunk on hand sanitiser'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-17850394

An increasing number of US teenagers are drinking hand sanitiser and mouthwash because it contains alcohol, police in Albuquerque say.

Some youngsters are even distilling the products to get a stronger hit.

Medical experts are appealing to parents to keep sanitising products and mouthwash out of reach.

Seriously....I can't think of a single day in my entire childhood, no matter how young I was, where I think that I would've even considered drinking hand sanitizer, or mouth wash, or even cough syrup...thinking it was a good idea. What the bloody fuck has happened to the average intelligence level of kids these days? I'm only 26, I'm not significantly older than these retards....so I have absolutely no idea what the fuck goes through their heads...

I almost fell over when I read a recent study of young people under the age of 18, and the staggering percentage of young people that admit to have "ingested a mystery powder obtained from a stranger, without any knowledge of what the powder could be" was higher than I was comfortable with... I mean really? Who....I don't care how old or stupid you are....who in their right mind willingly ingests a "mystery powder obtained from a stranger"?? I know some dumb shit was cool to do when I was young, but absolutely nothing as mindless as this shit.... 8(

^I was thinking that myself. Maybe leading in stomach ulcers or something perhaps..

This happens all over the UK hospitals, theyve had to start hiding them lol because they keep getting stolen, its more of the homeless though rather than the kids, the kids can just walk into a shop and get themselves a nice bottle of vodka from the liquor store owner who's race is irrelevant.

One good thing about them processing these substances in their home labs (read-kitchens) is that they will always have super clean hands.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.
If you mention prices, or sources, or make a comment that people deem racist, we will edit it out.
It keeps things from devolving into a free-for-all in the worst way, and keeps us focused on our mission of harm prevention.

I just saw this going across the bottom of CNN earlier today and thought wtf? All the same i knew some idiots when i was younger who when they could not afford cheap wine would drink cooking wine or if really desperate aftershave. A few got hospitalized to say the least. I was never stupid enough to try and drink anything that was not for human consumption. Fucking morons.

Seriously why not make your own booze it's not like it's hard. That's what we did when we where broke. Drinking hand sanitizer is just fucked beyond belief. It's like something that a really bad wino would resort to if they where in the DT's and had nothing else to drink.

Booze is a pain in the ass to get when you are under 21. Sure there are more people you can go to for alcohol than drugs, but its hard to conceal enough booze to get wasted, not to mention hand sanitizer is cheap as fuck. Seriously, 5 bucks will get you as much alcohol as you'll find in a 1.75 liter bottle of vodka. That's ten dollars for 3.5 liters versus thirty i believe for the raw materials to as much vodka on your own. Also, when you factor in the fermenting process and such, this dumb shit starts to make serious economic sense for a teenager with no regard for his or her safety.

...but it's hand sanitizer.

Its fucking retarded, but I can understand why someone who honestly believes that salt will separate out the bad shit would try it.

So... anyone here try it yet?

I can understand where you're coming from - I remember waaaaaaay back in the day when I was 17 and trying to score some Colt .45 - luckily I had someone do it for me but not everyone has that luxury. Although Colt .45 and luxury shouldn't belong in the same sentence, I know. If you live close to the Canadian border you can always come and legally get smashed at least 2 years earlier if you want. The chicks might be easier to pick up too since we tend to be nice folks............. eh?

they should just lower the drinking age or stop making a drinking age.so much stuff has alchohol in it neway.u can get drunk on vanilla extract mixed with juice if u drink enough of it.people of every age have 2 b able 2 buy mouthwash ,hand sanitizer, ect.those in power spend so much time trying 2 prop up the fashist war on drugs, wen it needs 2 b over, and should never have happened or become so xtreme.there is no dangerous trend.its just sumthing sum thought of 2 try 2 get drunk on hand sanitizer, wich they could have done with lots of other stuff.legalizing weed would help 2.they just keep making it harder 2 get high so people use more and more dangerous stuff sumtimes.

Getting alcohal can be tough if your not 21 I know when I was underage pot was always easier to get then booze

Same here. I would drink wine, vodka, whiskey, rum, and gin my parents had but not in major amounts all at once since I didn't want them to know I was drinking liquor. Sometimes I'd want a beer or a different type of booze which wasn't always that easy to get. Also when I was underage it was a lot easier to get pot and other drugs than it was to get booze until older friends of mine turned 21.

I'm not sure why they did this but then again I've seen videos on youtube of people forcing themselves to swallow a lot of powdered cinnamon. *facepalm*

Therapeutic index in humans uses TD50, not LD50...

What about benzos like temazepam? I'm not really trying to argue with you, I'm just pointing out that issues do come up, especially with the more toxic/ sedating benzodiazepines. Plus, like villan said, even a tiny amount of another drug wipes out completely the relatively high safety index.

As previously mentioned, benzos need another depressant to kill. They exhibit their action dependent of GABA and plateau without a second agonist. Short answer: combos are bad.
