Teens Ask for Smoke, Kill Woman When She Replies "Get a Job"

death penalty is NOT a deterrent (google for the reasons if you're curious)
/however, things as reprehensible as premeditated murder are worthy of it for nothing more than the sake of punishment, in the eyes of many
//no i do not have a firm stance one way or the other. my lean is against it, but honestly i'm on the line enough that i'm indifferent.

Personally I walk (hypocritically) along the line of being firmly against the death penalty but being perfectly fine with the idea of the family of a victim doing what they will.

Though I am anti-death penalty I would say it IS a deterrent to future crimes. As in you kill them as punishment for a crime than it does deter them from killing again. It just doesn't deter from the initial crime.

Uh no... I thought the consensus was that she was being a unmitigated bitch with her response. But that the kid didn't deserve the death penalty for wanting cigarettes. Whats the problem?

Sorry perhaps it's my misunderstanding you.

It just kind of almost sounded like you were suggesting his punishment for killing her should be sexual congress with her corpse.

My personal opinion being that I am against the death penalty is that he shouldn't see daylight in the forseeable future.

that's not hypocritical. the state turning a blind eye is different than the state executing (the latter being far worse obviously)

and that doesn't make sense. saying it "deters" an imprisoned man is inaccurate ("restrained" is what ya want i think ;] )

The only type of execution that would have a definite deterrence value is an execution that is 1) swift 2) painful 3) public. But since 1 and 2 are unconstitutional, the death penalty as presently practiced is p-p-p-pointless.

Having said that, why the hell are executions semi-private? Why are they not broadcast on PBS? The country loses what little chance it has of deterrence when it drops the curtain.
