A teenager who blew marijuana smoke into a kitten's face while her boyfriend filmed it on Snapchat has been convicted of animal cruelty and slapped with a $1,500 fine.
Sophie Wilson, 19, and her boyfriend Luke Hoiles, 20, from the Gold Coast, pleaded guilty to the offence after police found a video of the tabby kitten being abused and tied up, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
Distressing footage shows the cat's hind legs tied together with the caption 'Kitty naughty tied up now'.
The clip also shows Wilson holding the kitten down and blowing smoke in its face while Hoiles filmed the incident and appeared to laugh, a court heard.

Video footage also shows the cat energetically playing at the couple's home in Broadbeach Waters with the caption 'Kitty got into the goey' (speed).
Officers raided the couple's home in March last year and Wilson lashed out at a number of officers, Southport Magistrates Court heard.

She pleaded guilty to four counts of assaulting police for kicking an officer in the groin and biting his forearm, and bending back and biting another officer's finger.
Wilson and Hoiles also pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in relation to the incident.

Both Wilson and Hoiles (pictured together) pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in relation to the incident

Magistrate Chris Callaghan said they had 'behaved in a poor way towards that kitten' and said it seemed to be tormenting for the animal.
He fined Hoiles $1,000 for the animal cruelty offences and Wilson $1,500 for all offences. No convictions were recorded.
Solicitor Jodie Mair said the raid occurred while Wilson was still in her bra and pants.

She said Wilson was released from the station distressed, barefoot and without money at midnight.
The solicitor also said that Wilson was remorseful and regretted the 'poor decision'.

^ That. If you even took a swing at a cop and missed where I live you would have to contend with felony charges more than likely, and if you piss off the LEO they often add more charges. If she really kicked him in the nads this is ridiculous. I think tying the cats feet together is worse than the drugs... but I won't even smoke a cigarette near my dog unless we're outside in a well ventilated area.

So many humans are fucked in the head. Yeah I agree she should have got a harsher penalty. Animal abuse penalties should be way harsher in Australia and probably many places in the world.

How about this one I saw on the news yesterday, not drug related but very sad and stupid. Brain dead humans.

The shocking moment a tourist ‘killed’ baby dolphin, for selfies

THIS is the shocking moment a tourist “killed” a baby dolphin by parading it along a beach so holiday-makers could take photos.
Pictures taken on the Argentine beach resort of Santa Teresita show huge crowds of tourists clamouring to see the tiny mammal.
Tragically the dolphin’s thick fatty skin meant it quickly overheated and died — with its tiny body later left discarded on the sand.

Beach-goer Hernan Coria was one of those who took a series of photos of the La Plata dolphin as it was being manhandled by a tourist.
Dozens of people crowded round to get a look at the squirming calf, straining to touch it and take selfies with it.
But, like many species of dolphin, the animal isn’t able to spend long out of the water without overheating.
Tragically the baby dolphin died while still being passed around for selfies.

:p :? :sus:

These people are clueless and shouldn't be allowed to keep animals, with what seems like an obvious pattern of animal abuse - posting it online demostrates their mentality...which is confirmed moreso by the assault of police officers.
"A little smoke" might seem pretty harmless, but it is still a cruel thing to do to a kitten that cannot understand or consent to having its consciousness altered in that way.

And that dolphin story disturbs me no end.
Humans can be unbelievably sickening. I'm not a violent person (far from it) - but I'd like to punch the guy holding it in the head.

Oh come the fuck on its just a little smoke. Putting on the internet was dumb though

You believe we should be allowed to give animals mind altering drugs for our own entertainment? I can appreciate that a bit of marijuana smoke may not be the biggest deal, but if it is allowed, then where is the line drawn?

There was also evidence that the cat had been tied up, and that it had ingested methamphetamine. I highly doubt anything would have come of the smoke snapchat if there had not been evidence of further abuse.

I'm glad this was investigated and that these idiots got done. Animals are not toys.

Also, that dolphin thing made me fucking sick when I saw it. Ugh. That fat guy holding it is the most punchable guy of 2016 so far.

I too agree no domesticated pet, like a dog or cat, should not be forced to ingest a mind altering substance (unless actually needed, ex. pain, seizures, INSANE anxiety, etc.).. Just like humans some dogs/cats may not enjoy the experience of marijuana, especially considering the dosages the types of people getting their pets high are most likely giving them. I know they are just young and dumb and I am sure plenty of you have done stupid stuff to your dog/cat where you blow smoke in its face once or twice trying to be funny around your friend when younger. I haven't seen the video so I don't know how bad/cruel it is but It's probably not worth no 1,500 dollar fine or w/e.. Its these stupid apps now days kids have, they feel compelled, almost possessed to take a video or picture of every "cool"/(incriminating) thing they partake in. These snapchat apps and what not really are starting to ruin/cause trouble in young teens lives now days, making dumb mistakes... Thank god I was a teen in the 90's to early 2000's. before all this "record everything dumb you do culture" a lot of these younger kids are into now days. :?:?

Me too. I'm a firm believer in criminal law being used to the fullest extent against animal abusers.

Glad it's not just me. I'll hold his head under the water while you punch him, ok?

If in fact the cat was given methamphetamines, then these two are some of the worst people there are. I get panic attacks from meth, and that is knowing the fact I took a mind altering substance. This is absolutely appalling on a few different levels. Being a pet owner you are tasked with the care and upbringing of a living creature, and that responsibility should not be taken lightly. These people should be banned from owning any pets beyond a cockroach farm, or a bad case of body lice.

The dolphin thing made me incredibly angry as well. That guy's face is just so punchable. His smile is like a punch magnet. Just because noone wants to spend time with this guy doesn't give him the right to lure people in with a small dolphin. I bet he is wearing a speedo that says "juicy" on the ass of it.

Yes, it's just a little smoke that probably won't even get anyone high, but that is not the point. All the evidence points to them being irresponsible and abusive towards their pet. That is absolutely unacceptable. Do you not agree?

Putting it on the internet was dumb, but I'm glad they did. Who knows what else they would have done had they not been stopped.

When will people learn if youre going to do something stupid and/or illegal don't film it and definitely dont put it online...

Teenage couple accused of blowing cannabis smoke into face of kitten to fight animal cruelty charges

A TEENAGE couple accused of blowing cannabis smoke into the face of a kitten and tying up its legs with elastic bands will contest their animal cruelty charges.

Sophie Wilson and Luke Hoiles appeared in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday after police allegedly found a video of the incidents on a phone during a drug raid at a Varsity Lakes unit in March.

Wilson and Hoiles have both been charged with one count of animal cruelty.

Sophie Wilson has been charged with one count of animal cruelty.

Police will allege the couple tied up the back legs of a tabby kitten with an elastic hair tie, leaving it to struggle while bound on the ground.

They will further allege that Wilson, 18, inhaled smoke from a cannabis pipe and blew it in the face of the kitten while it was being held down.

Hoiles, 19, was also charged and police will allege he laughed following the incident and made no attempt to stop his girlfriend.

It’s understood the couple deny any wrongdoing in relation to the kitten. In court yesterday the matter was adjourned until July 10.

Luke Hoiles has also been charged with one count of animal cruelty.

The RSPCA confirmed it did not take possession of the cat at any time as at the time of the raid the cat was already back with its owner.

Solicitor Campbell MacCallum said the allegation was limited to the hair tie being tied around the kitten’s legs momentarily and the smoke being blown in its face.

“It seemed the initial reports obviously were a little wild and speculative,” he said.

“Whether that amounts to acts of cruelty is something that we dispute.”

The couple also face drug offences and a charge of assaulting police following an alleged struggle during the raid.

They tied the poor cat up. If this is what they allowed on FILM can you imagine what they did otherwise?

And I could not even LOOK at the photos about that poor dolphin... I heard about that....sick, sick, sick. That poor thing. I can;'t even stand to think about it. I can't stand it. My heart hurts.

I ....don't even know what to say. The thought of something defenseless being abused makes me so sick.

And with the dolphin, what, not ONE of those IDIOTS was like,"Hey....dolphin not looking too good...maybe we stop now..."??? Not ONE???

Ugh.

It has been shown that those with a propensity for harming animals have a tendency to harm humans.

I wish the world were a different kind of place. Now my head is thinking of all the cruelty I hear of and see. It makes me nauseated. I wish I could rescue them all.

Peace.

Jesus....do you know how fucking TERRIFYING it must have been for that poor dolphin to be just SURROUNDED by so many laughing IDIOTS as it overheated to DEATH????

Sick sick sick sick sick.....

Ugh. So angry. Fucking disgusting.

I agree that the animal cruelty offences should be tighter worldwide, I really praise UK for their laws. For those that do not know; Do not hit a dog with your car and simply drive off like what is a natural thing here in USA. Your fine will be enough to buy a late model economy car if done so. When I was visiting the UK in '97 a woman hit a dog along the roadway and she stop and tended to the dog, backing up traffic for almost a mile. She was crying and on her cell calling for assistance while many of the people got out of their cars to offer assistance, it really blew my mind and I was really proud for the UK to identify animals to a state of equable
