Techno Lovers Part 2

Brett: Thanks heaps! I'm glad you could make it, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Ever since Friday night, my spark for DJ'ing has been renewed. I got a great crowd response, and the feeling it gives you is undescribable.
You should have come up and said hi. I wouldn't have minded. Sunni came right up and even gave the decks a bit of a shove!

If you wanted Audio 23 you should have just asked me! Its sitting in my "unused" pile. Bit too hard for the kind of Techno I play these days...
Sir Jon: Beyer is KING. Nothing else needs to be said. Samuel is more a Tech house man, as Brett has mentioned. I haven't heard him play, but his tunes are very deep and sexy. Lots of moving bass. Not much else. One record I have of his is great, the others not so. I find them quite boring actually...
Oh, and that signature did suck. Don't ask me why I put it there. Boredom I guess. But Tarsarlan is right. Bass rhythms. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing like a good hard kick.

(Especially a Beyer kick!)
Chow for now...

Ok, I couldn't decide on a music related signature, so here's an alternative.

"At the point of ejaculation, withdraw. WHAT? That's like saying here's a box of chocolates, eat all the wrappers, and give me the sweeties back!" - Billy Connolly

brett: hehe KAY D is fuckn good isnt he
his new double "12 named CONSTRUCTION <- amazing tekkas :P~~
sir john: did u say "if i knew my techno??"
i sure know my techno more than u if u think surgeon is GOD, do not say things are completely equal to stupidity, i said surgeon is GOOD, the advent rips him apart
and saying beyer is boring <- no knowledge, amateur
uz want some good stuff:
Invasion - Sorceror
Spool - Spool 1
Westwood br0s - Treigut
Andreas Kremer - Precision Crash Component
The Dinamo - The Dinamo
also check out unknown artists like Fanon Flowers, HEADROOM (love em), Glenn Wilson...

Mr Audio: We are getting in to an argument based on personal preference. Which can't be answered.
Going on what I have witnessed (Beyers three sets) He did not get the crowd going with his minimal sets. His mixing was spot on but (for me) there was no funk.
Surgeons sets were a lot harder and well constructed to the point of blowing the roof off.
And i didn't question your techno knowledge. I was asking for info as i accept you know your stuff.
Didn't want to start a DJ war everyone has there own choice. But the guy who started the Judge Jules thread i think you'd agree he was wrong ;-)
Any way no beef - are you going to National Flower centre on the 23 Sept. Let me know what you think. Have you seen Surgeon mix? (not a test an honest Q)

Sir Jon: I haven't heard the Surgeon's DJ skills as yet, so I am keen to hear what he can do on the decks. Never been a big fan of what he produces. Sounds like a pretty good DJ though.
I also want to hear what Ruskin can do on the decks as well. He has produced a few handy records in the past year or so.
So I'll be at the Flower Centre, even though you didn't ask me
smile.gif

Sir John: its cool champ hehehe that what techo lovers threads are about, arguments hehe we love it
wink.gif

listen i havent heard surgeon mix it up, all i have heard his producing and isnt that hard in the producing sense although he has a few tought tracks (a few)
BUT .. i am not questioning his mixing, that i will question after PURE FLOW which yes i am going, and i would like to maybe meet u there and we'll talk den, because surgeon might give a set that will totally rip me ears into pieces and then i will admit surgeon ROX
wink.gif
BUT again .. i wouldnt rate him god yet hehe :P~ maybe in the future
although my main reason for pure flow is JAMES RUSKIN <- his track selection is :P~~
by the way who has heard some of MONIKA KRUSH??

Decimal Dan, good choice mate. At our local club Surgeon and Ruskin have played together about 4 times and they really do kick off when they play together.
Some of Surgeon's produced stuff isn't that good but I reckon his DJing is class.
Let me know what you think?

Mr Audio: Unfortunately I won't be able to get to the flower centre. I'm here in the little uk, coming to sample Australia with the g/f in November and will get to Melbourne to sample some of the techno delights (anything good happening NYE). From what i can gather on here techno seems to have a bigger club following than in the uk. We only have about 5/6clubs dedicated to it.
I don't know how i would describe Surgeon's style (my views come from seeing him in two clubs only, both are renound for their techno
The Orbit - www.orbit48.com and House of God his residancy where he hammers it.)
He'll often drop another tune half a beat out of the main one so you get a sort of:doof, doof, doof, doof, doof, doof, doof, doof per bar rather than doof, doof, doof ,doof (technical name apprcieted - would it be 8 beats to the bar rather than 4 beats) Hope you understand.
BTW what time is it where you are?

i guess i will just have to see
wink.gif

i know PURE FLOW is gonna explode
i cant fucking wait
RUSKIN is going to make my ears drop
hope surgeon does the same
who has heard: SURGEON - CABLE
?????

You guys are mad - this post is still going...... Everyone here seems to know what the fuck is going on in the world, and here i was wondering if the world had gone mad, and I was in cocoon world.
Nice to see the techheads livin it up and discussin real music.
Sorry, for you that do not know, my name is Matt and I am Dan's (DD) older sister's partner. Me and Dan do a lot of mixing together and arguing about who is gunna buy what records.
Mr Audio - Kay D. Smith is mad - all the Construct Rhythm stuff and also the stuff he does on form (It is Andreas Kramer by the way).
Sir Jon - Surgeon is also the master of the macabre - some very weird - some VERY banging and tough. Must say looking forward to that set. Can't wait for Ruskin either, should be mental.
Unfortunately, there are only the 3 lords of all fevers and plagues left to take up the slack - UNO - Marco Carola (still has to be the bast ever!!! Sorry to those that don't agree
smile.gif
) , DUE - Adam Beyer - what hasn't been said already (Dan stole my kick quote
smile.gif

TRE - For 3 decks 3 Hours - Gaetano Parisio rocked the planet (Hardware Universe & 2T2K)
Anyone wanting to hear more of the above come and see me play at Atmosphere on Sat morning 7.00am (sorry about the time). Should be a banging time!!!! THE ONLY TIME!!

Just a note to all........
Anyone that says that Jeff Mills is anywhere near as good as Beyer, Carola, Gaetek et all is living in the biggest dreamworld ever in the history of the planet.
1. The man is a fucking rockstar. ie.arrives 10mins b4 starting, leaves 15 mins after.
2. His set at Welcome was the biggest pile of dodgy shite EVER.
3. Hardware 16 set was also pretty crap (but better than Welcome)
Granted - Liquid Room is a great mix - it's just everytime he has played here (especially recently) he has been the biggest disappointment that I have ever had the displeasure of witnessing.
Fucking whinge - sorry had to get that off my chest......
Hunky Dory - see you guys in the soup, if any are at @mosphere - come and say hello.
Peace

van diemen: hope Surgeon bangs those drums.
Magneze is my particular favourite plus a few off Basic Tonal Vocabulary and Badger bite. Only 9 days to go for you lucky ones. I'm waiting till 28 october to see him one last one before i leave uk to join you all.
On Jeff Mills: seen him twice, he rammed the place, nice sets, some slightly off mixes but he gets concessions from me for the fact he get from one tune to another in 1/2 a bar.
Also he cancelled when he should have been in the UK and said he wouldn't come back again because he had a few Visa problems - he's back next year though I've heard.
The discussion forum on his website gives you an insight in to his pretense.

Ok, I have been following this thread for a while. yes I love techno but not as much as some people here which I think, is bordering on the obsessive level hehehe.
Anyway, techno has just recently tickled my fancy and I am really getting into it. I am learning heaps and heaps and starting to get a fair idea of who are the heavyweights in the tek world.
Now to the djing point. what makes a dj 'god' or king or whatever? Is it the track selection? is it the mixing? beat juggling? scratching? their specific style of music? the way they work the crowd?
What is it?
How does a DJ make a name for themselves?
To me (and this is my opionion) , its the music that is all important. Do different techno djs play their own signature flavour or do they just play other peoples records? So one set might be good and another might be crap, depending on the flavour of the month?
I also like it when a dj really cuts up a track. Thats another point. If you have the music at home, you'd want the dj to do something different than mixing from start to finish.
Anyone listened to Dave Clarke's Essential mix in jan 2000? I have heaps of dj mixes and nothing beats it. The guy totally kills almost every track! he does the full on cutting, scratching etc. does anyone disagree with me? Every other dj mix i have rarely does anything different (surgeon, james ruskin, jeff mills, adam beyer, cari leukbush (sp), fumiya, bens sims etc). Dont get me wrong, the track selection on all these mixes are awesome but if I have these tracks, I would be bored shitless.
I dunno, let the debate begin.
What makes a techno dj GOD?
Pringles

Personal Opinion is all it can go off.
If you find a certain style knocks your head off when your on one and a DJ provides it he's going to get big points. You know others are technically perfect but its just what tickles YOUR fancy.
For me Surgeon is hard as nails, pure base and I see him in a club which has been going for 10 years (i haven't). It started with dance music explosion in England and would have Sasha playing along side Carl Cox in a night a long with the old rave PA's. It had Daft Punk in '94 well before they were well know. They made a choice in '95 to follow the electronic route as there was a definate devide and since then I would say any techno DJ you can name has played there. The crowd no what they want and the harder it seems the better it kicks off. (Aphex Twin got booed when he played D 'n' B there - techno snobbery? Yes - I love it).
Now with such an up for it crowd it too makes your night loads better.

Surgeon is definately hard. I have a mix of his from Tresor and it gives me headaches sometimes! Which leads me to believe that mood is also a bid factor. I definately cant listen to that mix for breakfast!

Hidey Ho again,
In my opinion (not that it counts for much) a DJ should never be referred to as King or God (even tho I'll say one is - hahaha).
Every DJ will offer something different. It is simply their interpretation of what sound shoudl be coming form the PA. Guys like Cari Lekebusch, Surgeon, Dave Clarke et all, all offer a new range of sounds through mixing ability. This is why some DJs are better than others. They create a soundscape by using tools (tracks) to create something totally different.
I dunno - hard to describe really........ I have heard the Dave Clarke fused CD and it rocks as well - but I really think he tries to do too much with the tracks he uses (opinion only obviously
Carola 2T2K had to be the best set I have ever heard for pure mixing ability. Not one error for 1 3/4 hours.
This is what being the Master means to me.
