Hey so a few of us in N&SADD (mostly me because i coined the idea) want to have "Team Nod Starter" under our user-name, like the "Color wars" ppl get to have.

NeighboorhoodThreat thought it was a good idea, so mods, what do you say?

It'd be like me, chinky, Tommyboy, The Rock Monster, and the other regulars in the "How High is North America? v. team nod spring training" thread.

Color wars is a temporary title that can be won by anyone... thats usually the kind of thing that will get you a special title, something that everyone can participate in and one is only temporary :)

I understand it would only be temporary, that's no biggie at all...but it would be really cool. like 90 days having that would be awesome.

You'll have to discuss it with an admin, mods and smods dont have the ability to make that happen. :) Admin check this forum a lot so one should be in here soonish.

Thanks Fizzle!!

btw, mucho appreciation to you lol.

@Melange: don't ask, don't tell.

From how it has been discussed before, admin are willing to make personal titles as a temporary reward for 'official' contests which promote involvement in the site. Some are against even that and think there should be a firm no personal titles policy as it is too confusing for most members never mind the difficulty of determining what is an acceptable reason to give them out. I am quite certain that a forum or thread based clique will not qualify as an acceptable reason and would set an unwanted precedent where basically everyone would deserve one.

I believe that any extended argument or discussion over when it is fair to have a personal title or even an increased frequency of contests which wish to use them will quickly result in a blanket "no more personal titles" rule.

aside from the forum contests where the winner(s) can earn a custom title (the lounge's 'color wars,' new member introduction's old 'best user name' contest, the occasional competitions in words such as the recent 'poetry votedown,' etc), and excluding staff-organized events like yesterday, april fools day, the only other way to get a custom title would be if they were being sold as part of a donation-reward package (although hopefully, true custom titles will never be for sale; creating a new usergroup/title for large enough donations, like 'benefactor' or 'bluelight sponsor/supporter/philanthropist' or 'meal ticket' or something, might not be too bad, but please no individual custom titles).

imo custom titles would not benefit the site or the mission in any way, and if they had any effect it would likely be detrimental.

Not a mod (retired, clearly) but I don't think this is a great idea. Why would a harm reduction community reward anyone with a title for 'nodding'? It does not fit in with BL's policy of harm reduction.

Titles on BL are earned from present moderation service (all levels) and former moderation service (BL Crew), and from winning more 'playful' contests such as poetry and Color Wars, in my understanding.

^ Well put.

Colour wars & petry votedown winner are social aspects of the forum. Thge idea behind the competitions is to increase participation and traffic.

Sure there is a social aspect to the drug forums, but I don't think encouraging 'nodding' is a good way to attract attention to the forum.

The traffic these forums receive needs to focus on the HR side. Maybe the competition could be geared more towards a HR focus.

^This.

I don't condone BL adding custom titles to "who has the most hardcore addiction to opioids". It's not a competition. Playful, social things that have nothing to do with droogs are more my style. Encouraging drug abuse is not.

LnF, congrats on the promotion to smod!
