Te scene isnt dead!

This reminds me of the hippies are dead/alive battle. Some say the hippies died in 1967. A common reference point is:

*******
Death of Hippie’ march ended Summer of Love in 1967

The residents of the Haight themselves formed a “Death of Hippie” march in October to mark the end of an era that started out as a pure, social experiment but which had become polluted by outsiders and persecuted by the authorities after only two years.
*******

Of course hippies partied for years and years after (many of us still do). Heck, Woodstock, with 500,000 hippies didn't happen until 1969.

So, there is no real "line in the sand" when it comes to these things. Ppl will be rolling for decades. I guess it's a matter of personal perception. The way I figure it, when cultures such as punk, new wave, rave, hippies, etc. start out and they are only about 20% posers and the fashion industry hasn't quite caught on and capitalized on the movement, it is alive and well. Once the poser ratio increases to more than let's say... 40%, and you can pick up glow sticks at Toys R' Us, the hayday has passed.

So, bottom line, for many the scene is seen as dead. For others, the party is just getting started.

Taking ecstasy, if you want to call it a scene will never die unless some better drug comes along. Dressing up like fucking idiots, acting like babies and listening to shit music on the other hand has seen its day(with any luck).

No but it seemed that that was the kind of scene this thread was directed at. And if I'm right and we're talkin about the same scene then i could get over the shoddy taste in clothes but I cant forgive the music.

the "scene" (:|) is fine here. so we can't have 30k massives that go until 8am anymore- they only go till 4. :)

nevermind the plethora of undergrounds that populate LA's warehouse district and so-cal's deserts and mountains- plus the many 21+ clubs that pull serious talent with the latest closing time being 9am.

things are fine. %)

In my experience the music played at raves where the people are dressed up in said uniform is bottom of the barrel stuff. The kinda stuff that could made in a few hours. Because I love electronic music I hate to see it sold short. OooooooooK?

The same tunes being played at raves are the same tunes being played at clubs. So I really don't see where you're coming from when you say you like EDM but don't like the music played at raves. Same tunes, different DJs, sometimes.

Some mixed reviews... The scene is dead (IN mY EYEs) only when the martial law is imposed and everyone needs a barcode to get inside any kind establishment or MTV starts playing Ed Rush. Harsh but be it! As long as there is music and rebels against the current social structure there WILL BE A SCENE! Be it the scene of 95 or 03..Different groups of people will have different experiences, some will be in an upscale guido coke club and it will be a shitty vibe of an experience, others will let loose in the desert with a group of close friends and have the time of their life.
The music. I personally prefer D&B , hardcore and OLD school tracks, whats being played at raves today( I dont know) last time I went was 2005 and it was good. That being said anything that gets people moving and puts smiles on faces should be considered great. Point of this thread was to find out if anyone in Cali agrees with me because the last time I've seen kids dress up and have a blast was in Florida in 1996! Instead I got all these whiny shit about how shit is dead and it sucks, maybe you guys should move to Cali or at least see some pictures I've seen

I was getting the impression this was about a particular type of scene from the OPs line
see kids dressing up, having loads of fun and showing mad love
.
Whats all this about dressing up and showing mad love, why not do that all the time if thats what your into. But if your just using the drugs as a excuss to act like that i dont see the value of it.

This is the kinda thing i thought we were talking about

If we're talking about live electronic music in general then its never gona die same way rock and roll isnt. It might have its ups and down but even at its worst therel be an underground scene.

Agreed, but the rave scene is different everywhere, you know? I've never been to a rave where the music was like the music in the link you provided.
