Fuck man, seriously ANYWHERE hey! And as soon as possible ;)

More specifically, preferably somewhere like Finland or Iceland, but it's unlikely that I'll get anywhere near there sometime soon (if ever).

So more likely it'll be somewhere in North America. And then more specifically, in Alaska please!! =D

Of all my world travel plans, Alaska is second on the list, superseded only by Japan for a skiing trip :)
 
Japan is one of my daydreams, if i wouldnt stick out like a purple-pot-sticker...

my neighbor got back yesterday from working in Alaska since spring.
hes a logger.
... i felt bad, because i had no idea he was even gone!
 
A friend of mine and I are planning to take a trip to Alaska.
We've got rough ideas- though she is now thinking of moving up there- We've gone back and forth between flying and a cruise- but we WILL make it happen. As of this moment my money keeps disappearing on me, so.....it may be a little while- :\


And one day, I WILL make it to Scandinavian lands :D
 
Also a dreamer of Alaska (I've never been - yet!). Was the aurora visible, my Northern Washingtonian friends? I've never seen it. My mom said she could occasionally see it where she grew up in upstate NY when she was little. There are monthly "star parties" that I'd like to attend... the next one is this coming Friday, to see the Perseid meteor shower!

Since it's best to be away from city lights to view such things (although I don't get much light pollution where I live), this one is being thrown about 1/2 hour from where I am right now, at a state park. This state park has a clothing-optional area on the river beach 8o that is known for some sketchy activities, both sex and drugs. To see the Perseids, though, I might brave it. I'm kicking myself for not driving back from my dad's where my telescope is being stored, as it is practically half the size of me and with the counterweights, etc., it wouldn't travel well by air. I miss it! My binoculars are useless in comparison. It weighs over 40 lbs without the counterweights and it is bulky. I'd sure get some nerd cred if I dragged that thing with me.

Look up at the sky around 9 PM PDT on Friday, August 12, if you're in the Northern Hemisphere as you may see some serious ... and wish me luck if I do go to that park, though it will be with other astro-nerds and other non-sketchy types, even kids. The only bad news is that there will be a big full moon then :| I just can't win with seeing this stuff sometimes, and it has fascinated me as long as I can remember.

How's everyone's weekend been? Mine's been quiet. Cooked a bunch, caught up with some cool folks, and hoping to have a good start to the week.
 
Sleeping in shifts isn't agreeing with me.

I didn't see the aurorae tonight - from Earth, we have such the tough perspective. Vesta, the asteroid that is coming about for all of we Virgo types (yep - there are more than one) this is our summertime fly... literally. I'll take it to the astrology thread in P&S.

There's always this week to assess things. As my week approaches, it will be fine. I have a buddy and a pair of binoculars. :)
 
^Interesting to contemplate...

To add to my post above about spacewatching, the International Space Station should be visible!!! I've never seen it and don't know how powerful others' telescopes will be, but due to its orbit, it will be visible in the Pacific Northwest provided the full moon doesn't give too much light pollution. I hear from the astro-nerds that it's nothing to write home about, but I will be grabbing my space atlases and checking for some awesome stuff I haven't seen... by the book!

I wish I was a rich woman, as I'd like a whole collection of telescopes, plus a piece of land where I don't need to worry about stepping on a used condom, so I can enjoy this hobby further. I think my car might need new brake pads, so that comes first. :|

Sure, but having money is nice too. Meeting new people is generally good. Depending on the culture of the office, you might actually find a group of really cool people there. Corporate jobs often suck, but the people who work them aren't necessarily just soulless drones. You'll be fine, just give it some time.
