Berlin is amazing. I've been (half-assedly) looking into doing grad studies there. My German's not great, but a) it would become great in time and b) apparently a lot of the sciency programs will let you do your thesis in English!

And while I don't have much in the way of family in the North, I've got a bunch of family in Baden-Wurttenburg (sp?) and Bavaria; which are both wonderful places to visit.

Man, I would absolutely adore to study in Berlin. Even if it's just one semester.
My German is reeeasonably good and I know I could definitely get by. AND as you said Dave, as soon as you're in the environment with everyone speaking German all around you, you would pick it up SO quickly.

Studying abroad sounds fun....I dunno if I'll end up back in school though, aside from what I'm doing now. But you young whippersnappers with all your energy, go travel and learn!

Spatzle's one of those things you can never make yourself at home, too. I think I tried once and it tasted like buttered lumps of dough.

I love planking as well! I find it absolutely hilarious.

You can actually be arrested for wreckless planking now in Australia because a young man did it while drunk on the balcony at a hotel and fell to his death.
I am really sorry for the guy's death, it is tragic. But if that isn't a knee-jerk reaction by the government, I don't know what is 8)
 
i havent tried it yet, im good at planking as an exersize but we'll see how i am in public hahaha ill have pics fersher :)

and thats terrible! but come on, planking on a balcony?

dropthatpickle-- oh em gee, I make spaetzle (without an umlaut, add an e :)) at home all the time. The best is linzen und spaetzle: spaetzle with lentils. It's just spaetzle served with a simple lentil stew composed of cooked puy or green lentils with caramelized onions, dark roux and just enough stock/broth to hold it together, and minimal seasoning. Served with fresh cracked black pepper and top shelf balsamic vinegar. Simple, hearty, warm.

Oh, and planking is silly. I mean really now, c'mon.
