@Michael--those beauties are japanese beetles??? I thought those long red ones with the black heads were Japanese beetles--the ones that consume my roses every year.

there may be more than one species of beetle referred to as a japanese beetle (especially regionally), but the ones in these pictures are definitely japanese beetles. and it is true, they are gorgeous.

i am a big fan of beetles. this is a short-winged blister beetle, and the picture really does not do it justice.

Stardust., I'm with you on the sweaters.
Pip, that sounds wonderful. Just don't forget the iridescence and you're good to go : )
Neo and drinkswithevil, you guys are adorable.
Motherofearth, thanks for the compliment, I hope that she does. Plus I want a niece or nephew..

Something I took of my little sister on Friday, she was showing Harley for the last time after five years together. Harley is now being sold to a family in Canada :' (

^Wow! where do you hail from? Your pictures always have such beautiful light. And the one of Harley---that gorgeous horse does not even look real!

<3Snowboarder!<3 Where ya been, bud? Those photos are beautiful. There is no better strategy in the world to clear your head than getting out on your own two feet and walking somewhere. (And you were smart enough to bring your camera.)

@ Michael--I love beetles, too. They are like the perfect mix of industrial looking and completely fanciful looking at the same time. In a way they always seem like miniature war machines to me--you know, something built to withstand combat?

MoE--are you wearing a bib to eat pizza? I do that all the time when I eat out and my family laughs at me but I don't think I've ever used one for pizza.

Here is what I made at a Make a Calder Wire Self Portrait gig at the museum today. It's very flattering.=D

Erm, uuuh, yeah! Funny you noticed. I was really thinking of stating it was pizza.... ya know, so people wouldn't think it was a leg of mutton. Truthfully, I just savor bibbing it up.

That is a very unique self-portrait you have there. The medium stands out!

i have been trapt inside the shitty ass feelings of a major depression.. i want to feel better but sometimes that not how it goes. i want to get better ...i hope to be one day. those pics were taken with my cellphone so i always have my camera with me lol

^ah, I should have known. I'm old and i forget that everyone always has their camera-I-mean-phone with them these days! I'm sorry to hear you've been down in the black hole again---that place sucks.<3

This is a painting that I did from an old photo of my Grandfather and me when I was about 2. He always wore either a fedora or a panama hat. After he died I got one of his fedoras and I wore it a lot but somehow lost it during all the traveling years. I wish I still had it and I must say that he set my taste for life--I'm a sucker for a guy that wears a hat with style!;)

Sweet divine! This is so incredibly beautiful... speaks volumes. :D His arms!
