This is the cathedral in Rothenburg a.d. Tauber. It was kinda a snapshot.

This is the vista from the Burg Trifels castle. To the far right is the Rhine river valley. These mountains are the southern Pfalz.

there has been zero weather here lately... just hot, then cloudy for a day... me want thunderstorm, and gail force winds, relentless squalls!

not, o yay, its such a lovely sunny day :D. if we are going to have near 18 hour days, let there be action! because bright light gets hot, and intrusive...

I must say, the thought of 18-hour days is intriguing to me, as a novelty. But I'm sure the novelty would soon wear off with the heat that it brings

I am lovin' the Aussie winter over here, it's perfect. I wish it was like this all the time!! Especially this afternoon in Sydney, it was about 18C (65F) and not a clooouud in the sky

here, the picture icon weather forecasters use is a sun a little cloud by it, and bluesky you know, for the whole damn summer. lol

Oh I found this one on my old camera's SD card the other day....

That's me, sleeping on my guntruck, on a turnaround in Tikrit. We'd run convoy-security up from Balad, pick up another convoy at FOB Speicher, and then head back down to Anaconda.
For a while the roads were classed Black, and convoys only ran at night. So for those taskings I had to report to my TOC for convoy briefing and ammo draw around 1800. After loading everything up we'd have our security briefing, the chaplain lead us in prayer & bless every guntruck, and we'd head down to the KBR marshalling yards at about 2000. It'd usually take an hour or so to get all the TCN trucks (third-country nationals; trucks owned and driven by mainly Turks & Pakistanis) lined up, and we'd head out the front-gate sometimes by about 2100.

It'd take us about 4-6hrs (at best) to get from Anaconda to Tikrit; to get there we had to go through downtown Balad, past Samarra by way of the by-pass bridge (always a fun spot), and through the "suburbs" of Tikrit to FOB Speicher. So around 0300-ish we'd pick up a return convoy or head back by ourselves.... in which case we'd make it back to Anaconda in about 2hrs.

So after baking in the sun, straining my eyes through the NVGs for hours, and the constant dust blowing in my face..... I'd take a powernap on my truck for about 15-30min after wolfing down an MRE. And sleeping here was way better than in the dirt, plus I could jump right up into my gun-mount and roll out in a minute or less. xD

I had let one of the guys use my camera, so he decided to use it on me for a snapshot. LOL
Behind me is the Armox (hardened-steel) box that I sat in, behind my .50cal. This was before all the high-speed prefab slap-on armor kits started showing up, and we had to shadytree up-armor our M998 HMMWVs.

I still have that knife. For some reason, it's been like a boomerang to meh.... I'll "lose" it, or it'll get "borrowed", and it's always come back to me. Funny, I grabbed that knife when I was leaving Colorado, and forgot almost everything else.

I too thought that looked like Austin......Hmm......
And I also woke up wishing it was the fall- beautiful trees, everything smells great and the weather varies!
This summer shit needs to get better! Last summer we had a couple thunderstorms.....maybe we'll get lucky and get some soon.......
I like summers for fresh local fruits and veggies........

^It's downtown Madison, WI. Our weather here is decent, but I miss the nonstop summer thunderstorms from Milwaukee, where I grew up. Living just to the west of Lake Michigan is way cooler in the summer! Not only the temperature, but the weather! *rimshot*

I need to get my damn pictures from my boyfriend's camera! I got some great ones while doing lots of driving recently.

ive been to milwaukee many times, the family if mine who has been to madison liked it a lot... lol, i used to get a drum&bass mag printed out of there... always thought it was odd... "Massive" magazine methinks.

yeah, and its terrible when they start walking backwards trying to pry them off... it becomes such a pathetic site, that laughing is hard not to do.

they really start to show how many facial expressions cats can give in such dier straights...

you know, the "Schrodinger Cat" theory.

^^ I must say, it was absolutely fucking hilarious when he first came home from the vet with it on. He was still groggy from the sedatives and anaesthetic, and it was really confusing him.
Plus, he was naturally trying to "smoodge" everything with his face but the bucket was just clunking on everything he went passed

I will never forget when my kitty had to wear the dreaded cone. It was terribly amusing. She bugged the fuck out for about a day and then was just pissy until it came off. She kept trying to get under stuff (beds, couches, whatever, just roaming around) and the cone would run into things and she would just go insane. Silly kitties...
