It was my dream-bike...
Ask, and so ye shall..... :D
(Note: I've forgotten some of the names of these places, but when I remember them I'll post em.)
And more as I resize & load 'em. I lost at least a thousand pictures when my laptop & spare hard-drive were stolen last year.
I love America, and I've laid down my life for her.... but I'm also a 2nd-gen American-German, so I still have strong roots over there. And for sheer history, Europe has it in spades. I'm a historian & photographer anyways, so I was in heaven during those four years. Plus this was before I became a junky, and I was a *huge* beer enthusiast. **grin**
My time in Germany also happened to be the best years of my marriage, but that's neither here nor there.
If anyone has any questions about any of these places, or Germany in general, I'd be more than happy to elaborate. My memory is still pretty strong about them.
Note: Most of these places are in the Pfalz mountains. Heidelburg is on the edge of the Odenwald, over on the other side of the Rhine valley near Mannheim.
Altdahn (actually 3 different ruins) & Neudahn ruins (w/ exwife :c ), Dahn, sud Pfalzischwald
Hardenburg ruins, Bad Durkheim
(This place is worth a trip to Germany in of itself, and are the largest accessible ruins in the country. I went there at least a dozen times over the 4 years I was in Germany.)
I was messing around with PS CS3. LOL
Burg Trifels & vista
Rothenburg a.d. Tauber
(actually a city, but has the only surviving original ring-wall in Germany. Also the famous "Christmas" town)
(Note: boiling oil was poured onto attackers through the face above the gate. Yes, that's actually oil stains.)
Schloss Marksburg
(The only original undestroyed castle in Germany. Also the seat of the German Castle/Ruin Preservation Cabinet)
This place is a gasthaus/inn that was built in 1570 (IIRC). We stayed three nights in the top front room for 40-euro a night, breakfast included! The Eck-Fritz was definitely the best guest-house I ever stayed in, and the Marksburg is just above the town which is situated on the Rhine near Koblenz. I have so many stories from this place..... it was damn near magical.
This is the lower section of the Neiderburg ruins.
The Heidelburg Schlossruines, from behind & above. Heidelburg & the river Neckar lie below.
This ruin is in Schonau, near Neckarsteinach.
Osterreich ruin & Alps vistas. There are many of these robber-baron castles all along the Austrian/Swiss/German border
Ruins above Nothweiler. There are many cliff-top castle ruins in the southern Pfalz/Alsace mountains.
Wolfsburg Ruines above Neustadt a.d. Weinstrasse
(A favorite biking destination. The two bikes are ours.)
