And to confuse things further rugby here is rubgy union, not rugby league :)

You have to admit, soccer is probably the game most deserving of the name "football" given that in the other games we call footy here the ball spend a lot of the time in one's hands.

Yeah, I was basically saying "soccer" because I know it's mostly Americans that frequent this thread ;)

But in Australia we do also call it soccer because, as dtta and belarki explained, Rugby Union and Rugby League are called "football". I have friends from the UK though, so personally I do refer to soccer as "football" when I'm around them.

Furthermore,
Footy = Rugby League
Rugby = Rugby Union

To further confuse things, indoor soccer is also called "futsal" but I've never called it that. I call it "indoor".

/confusion =D

*edit* Please note that I do not refer to AFL, aka Aussie Rules, at all. This is because it is lame and I don't watch it :)
