Hehe yeah, named after a the drummer in one my my parents' favourite bands, who died just before we got Twink. He cheered me up a lot over the past few weeks, it's hard being really sad with a cat in your lap :D

^Amen to that, Effie! ^
I had no idea this thread existed and just posted one of my cat's (actually was Caleb's ) over in the SO pets thread. I think I'll put all three cats and the two rabbits in the same place later and see if I can take a party picture.....

HWH--that is really amazing about the two cats you grew up with. Cats don't always stay bonded with people once they've been gone a while. You must have had a very close bond.

^ absolutely gorgeous! <3

It's amazing how much pets can boost your mood, isn't it? Should be standarda form of therapy offered by doctors - prescribe-a-pet :D

Here's my mum's cat Twink - he's so fluffy! He's really affectionate yet independent, and very smart too, especially at getting his own way - you'll suddenly find yourself stood by his food bowl with a handful of cat treats, with no idea how you got there, hehe. He has a good catnip sesh once a month or so too. Was lovely seeing him while I was back at my parents' house.

He usually thwarts every attempt to take a good photo, so I am very pleased with this one even though it's a bit blurry!

I didn't know this thread existed, am very happy to discover it :D <3

Pets sure do help when your down. They are their for you when needed and they won't look down on you for your problems. Just treat them right and give plenty of love, and they will pay you back even more. For the years I've had Baby the macaw, I could count on him for comfort every time we spend time together. Since I got Lucky the raccoon, what was left of my depression has melted away and I can feel happy, often with no drugs at all. They are both very affectionate and are the most intelligent animals I have ever known.

Your cat is very pretty, and I am not a cat person at all(not that I dislike them or anything).

^^Their gorgeous TD!! <3 =D <3 =D
...Significance of them being your pets is so heartwarming.:)

Twink! <3

Thanks! I love them both like family members. They are my closest companions by far and I don't know what I'd do without them.

I will upload another picture of Lucky the raccoon as he has grown fast and looks a lot different now than he did in the picture I posted. Personally, I think he is even more beautiful now!

Your raccoon is pretty amazing ^^

That's crazy that they only live an average of 1.8 years in the "wild." I wonder how much humans impact that life expectancy :\

1.8 years seems like such a short amount of time for an animal that large.

Yeah, I think he is amazing. Raccoons are among the most intelligent animals. They can make excellent pets if properly raised and cared for, though you should definitely learn a lot about it before deciding to get one.

About the short lifespan in the wild:
Death is typically not due to bad health or the body wearing out but is mostly due to human causes.

From Wikipedia
Captive raccoons have been known to live for more than 20 years.[117] However, the species' life expectancy in the wild is only 1.8 to 3.1 years, depending on the local conditions in terms of traffic volume, hunting, and weather severity

In most places, getting hit by cars is the leading cause of death with hunting being second(though first in some places). In some areas they are poisoned as pests(completely unnecessary). Humans are by far the biggest threat to the lives of raccoons in the wild. I think it is really sad that something capable of a 20 year life span only averages 1.8-3.1 years due to the destructiveness of humans.

I have a step nephew who always brags about how many things he kills. Not long ago, he seemed pretty proud of having killed 3 raccoons one night. I assume a mother and two older offspring. He just leaves the bodies where they drop. I don't think there is anything he won't kill.

That is absolutely sickening. I'm not necessarily against hunting per se, but I've always been of the mind that if you're not going to eat it, then you don't get to kill it.

I'd have never thought of having a domesticated racoon as a pet, but I'd bet that they would make wonderful pets. They seem like they have such playful personalities that, while requiring a lot of care and attention, would make for great companions.

That is despicable and makes me want to cry :(
Not so much for one person (your stepbrother) doing it, but for the fact that there are many MANY people just like him in the world :(

Anyway, Tryptamine*Dreamer, you are so incredibly lucky (hehe) to have Lucky and Baby!! Wow man, they are two amazing pets right there. I can only imagine how fulfilling it is to be their dad :) <3
Please tell me more about Lucky though. Being an Australian, I have never even seenp a raccoon, let alone heard of them being domesticated!! Tell me everything!

effie Twink is adorable! Sooo fluffy and gorgeous =D

Wolfie your two kitties also look so amazingly adorable and loving <3 I am not surprised you felt so emotional when you saw them again!! I would be exactly the same. How awesome is it that our pets remember us even after not having any contact for several years. Animals really are so amazing <3

Here some recent pics of my babies<3

A very rare photo of them altogether!

Oh holy shit!! They are fabulous creatures!!!! =D =D Overload of cuteness.
I must admit, nobody does cozy better than animals at rest. <3
Especially, love the one of Toby lounged on the heater- ha ha :D

Aw so many awesome pets. n3o my god you have so many great ones! Smoodge is an awesome name. Twink and Javi and Lucky/Baby are lovely too !

Hahaha I know! "Smoodge" fits him to a tee =D He is always smoodging things with his face :D <3

Asclepius, Toby is so obsessed with the heater. He was a rescue kitty and our personal theory is that he was left out in the cold winter when he was a kitten, so he's always been completely obsessed with any heat source. Like, I know cats are just like that, but he takes it to the extreme.
