TASTING an intravenous shot immediately after the injection

I found a related thread (http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=398500), but much of the conversation related to drugs other than heroin, and I sorta wanna focus on heroin here...

The first time I experienced this phenomenon, I thought it was just my imagination. I had never come across anything related to it in all of the reading I had done on heroin use (perhaps I didn't do enough reading?), and had never even heard of anything like it before until after I experienced the same sensation two or three times and decided to do a little bit of "research" online.

So anyway, each time I do a decent two-bag shot of my usual stuff, I almost invariably "taste" (er, smell? same thing) the dope in the back of my mouth. It's the same taste/smell I encounter when i lick the remains out of an emptied bag, only much fainter, but nevertheless identical in it's unique taste/smell.

An acquaintance of mine, a fellow BlueLight'er recently mentioned that he experiences the very same sensation, which prompted me to compose this post, because I was sure that we couldn't be the only ones who experienced this phenomenon.

One of the weirdest things about it is the fact that it happens SO QUICKLY... I literally taste/smell the dope before I'm done pulling the syringe out of my arm, way before the onset of the rush and subsequent high. I simply cannot account for the quickness with which the taste/smell follows the injection... It's quite astounding.

In addition, I've noticed that I really don't experience this with anything other than relatively high-quality dope. My usual stuff does it for me, and so I know that if I taste/smell the dope after a shot, I can pretty much rest assured knowing that a nice rush/high will follow.

Anyone else experience anything like this?
 
Used to happen to me with every heroin shot.

I loved it. You taste it in the very back of your throat about a second after you shoot.
 
Yeah I get that sometimes, I've noticed it with Heroin, IDK about others, I try not to shoot coke too much...that's not a fun road to go down
 
Yes this def happens to me. I love the sweet taste of a good shot of H.
 
Of all the drugs I've injected the cocaine taste definitely comes on the fastest and becomes the most intense and lasts the longest. It first numbs a bit and, if the shot's a winner, the metallic taste will overpower the numbing followed by the most incredible of any IV rush.
 
When I was using, two things would happen. I would actually taste the shot, like you mentioned. Or the back of my throat would get this weird sensation. Almost like a tickling sensation, like i would gag a little, but in a good way?
 
^yeah I know that gag feeling you're talking about. It almost feels like it hits you so hard you just can't breathe or gag or something. But it is a very welcoming type of gag lol
 
Well, if I happen to shoot an excessively strong shot, I not only gag, but also occasionally vomit. My usual dope is rather strong, and so I've learned to stick to simple and safe two-bag shots. Anything more than that is tempting fate.

Get mad Taste from IV Fentanyl avnd Hydromorphone,That mig\ht be just me though.Ive noticed people experience this differently,the way drugs affect ppl differently.Like My friend will say he tastes a shot when I dont.
 
I also get the taste in the back of my mouth when I do a good shot of H, I think its pretty common.
 
too me personally, the tast of the dope means that i did a proper shot. I long for that bitter smacky taste.
I also looove the smell of the steril alcohol wipes i use to clean my vein before blasting off(sounds weird ,i know). or when my vein pops out perfectly and makes the need for a tie unneccesary . IM JUST HOOKED to the needle cause i know i didntt wast any drug and knowing that my high will be slapping me in the face before i can put the rig and spoon down.

I can agree with that. The particular area i live in, in my city, is the big heroin area: most people here are high, and after years of looking for a decent hookup, i found one. its almost guarenteed i will vomit if i do more then my normal amount per shot.

and, ive noticed the taste a time or two as well, its very strange. it normaly goes away so quick that i never know if im just a little crazy or if it was actually there!
 
I love the IV dope taste. I love when you can taste it, and my friend says the same thing right after she shoots up, she'll be like 'I LOVE WHEN YOU CAN TASTE THE DOOOPPEEE!" yea, it's nice.
 
Absolute normal reaction. Happens to me with basically every drug I've shot. In fact, it's kinda how I can differentiate and know my shit is good for sure when I'm too lazy to sample something new (well, that, and being very high) . Not the best practice, I know ;).
 
Most IV drugs have a certain taste, wether it's saline or morphine, each one gives you a strange taste behind your tounge.
 
I think it really has something to do with your brain recognizing your anticipation to shoot up. Once you get that familiar rush, the brain unleashes a flood of memories when you did it before, including the taste or smell of the drug. Your brain has A LOT to do with how a drug effects you, just look at some news stories of how some people end up overdosing on heroin when they shoot up in a an unfamiliar place. The brain isn't prepared for the shot because it's not in the usual settings.
 
AH yes. The beautiful taste of hospital morphine. I've been given 3 shots of morphine and 1 shot of Dilaudid in an hour. I didn't feel it then but then on other occasions I got just three shots of morphine and felt it for twelve hours. I guess the doses varied greatly from the two times. It tastes AWESOME! I wish I could have that anytime I wanted. I would be the happiest man in the world.
