taste of GBL and 1,4bd

I received what I tought was 1,4-butanediol, a liquid solvent that freezes at 70 degrees fah. The taste had been described to me as having a ethanol-like quality. The 'butanediol' I received did not solidfy in my refrigerator(which was well below 70 degrees). It did not taste like it had been described either. It had an oily bitter taste. Is this what butanediol tastes like? Or was it GBL?

Hmmm. The 1,4b that I have had did not seem to solidify at 70 F, perhaps it was mixed with something? Also, it did indeed have an oily, bitter taste -- that would be an excellent description.

it must be diluted with something. Pure BD will freeze @ 20 degrees celsius. Maybe they sold you GBL? GBL is a lot more "liquid", BD is a lot more "oily and sticky"...that's the best way I can describe it.

Well thats actually a little hard to tell you what it is. If its not solidifying at colder temps (in your fridge)then its definetly not 99.9% pure 1,4. Take what you have and pure a little in a glass bowl mix it with a little NaOH and see if it boils. If it does its gbl if not its 1,4. BTW I kinda think both have a oily bitter plasticy taste.

Good idea, never thought to do that. To bad my g/f poured my last ounce of it down the drain due to me being 'an addict'(I had a 3x/week habit, go figure). Anyway, someone described butanediol as being thick and oily, which was like what I had. And I know it wasn't pure, it was 99.7% according to where I bought it from, would that be dilute enough to lower the freezing temp? Maybe it is butanediol after all.

GBL + NaOH will NOT boil. It only boils when you add water. If the 1,4 has any water in it, you're going to get a reaction.
99.7% should be pure enough to not change the freezing point.

IMO, all that GBl, GHB type shit tastes like SHIT...real bitter tasting saltwater is the best i can describe it..the blue stuff VERVE tasted like a real offbeat brand of nasty ass GRAPE JUICE..uggh, just thinking about the taste of that shit makes me sick..the high was worth it though..
