Have you guys heard of this stuff? I just saw a commercial on TV advertising to people, but it took some digging to actually find what med they were advertising. It looks to be just like that Rozerm shiat..

It's a melatonin 1 and 2 receptor agonist, so I wouldn't expect it to differ from melatonin by much other than pharmacokinetics.

I don't understand... there could never be a point to high affinity metalonin receptor agonism?

That's not what I meant to say, just that we shouldn't expect a qualitatively different experience from other Melatonin 1/2 agonists. Higher affinity is still useful compared to lower affinity because you can take less drug to get the same effect, which in general reduces the risk of off-target side effects.

I think the real advantage of Ramelteon and Tasimelteon compared to melatonin proper is their increased duration. Melatonin with a half life in the ~30min range really has a short "sweet spot" to get to bed before the effects wear off, these new drugs should avoid that problem mostly.

Either way its probably no different effect wise then just taking OTC melatonin.. I got scripted that Rozerm shit once and it was literally useless, normal melatonin worked way better. Its pretty pathetic how these pharma companies just barely tweak a substance and then get a patent on it when it basically does the same thing as the base substance they based it off of..
