Opioids Tar Opium - Dosage?

Hey there guys,

I've been gifted some beautiful florally scented tar/resin opium (yep, I'm sure it's not black tar heroin - I can tell by the scent). Following a search on Google, DF and here on BL, I am unable to find a reasonable answer as to the dosage. I am aware that it probably varies wildly but I was hoping one of you legends would be able to advice on a suitable initial dosage to work up from(vaped)?

I've never really smoked/vaped opium in this form before and my current tolerance isn't amazingly high - I just pop the occasional oxy and obviously dabble here and there with codeine or morphine when possible.

Take a pea-sized piece (assuming it's soft enough to mold into a a little ball, like the floral scented opium I got once) and then vape it. I personally wouldn't use foil, up to you.

When I did it, my friends and I used a technique informally known as a "knife hit". Basically, use a blow torch or a stove coil, put two butter knives under the coil until they're red hot then have the top half of a pop bottle cut off, ready. Your partner will grab the two knives red hot and you drop the ball of opium on one knife, then they take the other knife and place it on top of the other, rubbing them together (like in the motion that scissors make) and then you inhale through the pop bottle.

There are obviously much more "professional" ways of vaping, but that worked amazingly with hash, and just as well with opium. Otherwise you can use foil and do it that way.

Sorry if I'm not much help, but that's all I can personally contribute. Hopefully others have more experience with opium. Finding an opium pipe is kinda hard to come by where I'm at

I used to just roll 5-6 pellets (1/3) the size of a bb and smoked that in a bowl with ash on the bottom. Torch it with a lighter.
 
Just a heads up though, finding quality opium is one of the most difficult endeavors you will encounter. And even if you, by some miracle, find some great stuff (ill tell you how to know later on) it'll still probably not give you the buzz you REALLY want... Funny story, opium was the FIRST opiate i ever consumed. I smoked it, and got the most mild buzz, which at the time was okay... but i felt like my Bud would have done me more justice.. (Surprise! it most definitely did)

Now, how to tell if you have good opium. It should smell like the prettiest flower you ever smelt. It should be very very malleable (you can shape it into anything with ease.). And this next one is important, take your opium, squish it in your index and thumb like a pancake, and let go of it... If you see white strands sticking to your fingers (much like if you had glue between them) then its good shit. Have fun, good luck!
 
There is something called "soapium" or opium incense that's been being sold as opium since the '80s...In fact, you could order it from the back of High Times, labelled as "opium incense"...I'm not saying that it's not real, but I'd be wary of too strong of a "flower aroma"....
 
The old fashioned pharmacopieas used to suggest that standardised opium was approx. 10% morphine by weight, but of course higher quality material was known.
 
Cheers for all the replies guys, I decided to roll up a nice ball of it and vaporise it off foil (yeah, I know it's the scum-bag method but hey - it works haha). It's a more subtile feeling than from, say, oxies, but that's to be expected. It's pretty bloody lovely actually, went nice with some paki black hash!

The opium comes from a relatively reliable source - it's actually quite common in the part of Wales I live in. I suppose that's partly because we're near all the docks, so one would imagine it comes through them from oversees. It's relatively soft but also a little "springy" if you know what I mean. Easy enough to roll up into small BB-sized balls.
