So i have been somewhat addicted to opiates for about a year, and when i mean somewhat i mean i take them everyday but i can get away with only taking one dose every 24 hours if i want too. When i dont take them i get super tired and feel really shitty, but not as bad as i thought it would be. I am perscribed dilaudid 8s and roxicodone 30s. because I've had 2 back surgries. so my question is do you think it would be easy or worth it to taper off with my old tramadol script?

Any opinions will help thanks.

well the problem is that while tramadol has a long duration (around 12hours for me) it's metabolites are what produce most of the mu-opioid effects so everyone's reaction is different. either way, it still has very low affinity for mu-receptors. you say usually take hydromorphone and oxycodone which both are powerful opiates and have high affinity for the mu-opioid receptors. so tramadol won't be much help for you to try to taper. you first have to get your roxi/dilly dosage low so that you will actually feel something from the tramadol. dont even bother with ultram untill you have tapered down to 30-40mgs of oxy daily. but i suspect that suboxone would be much more helpful to you...
