Was doing a solid 120 mg a day oxy. 4 little blue pills ir. Decided that I didn't need them any more and was starting a taper program.

The first day I thought it's the last real day lets get high and took 150 and did the same the next day then 180. Well crap I did get high but I dropped down to 135 last night and I had some bad sweating all night so I must have been getting used to the higher dosage. . But I'm fine now. today I'm planned for 125/ ( I have norco and can manage the smaller dosages with it.). I'm planning on stabilizing at 120 tomorrow and my goal is to be down to 90 by the end of next week. so thats 10 days to drop to 90 mg.

Do you think that's to fast. I remember quitting qt and I was effed for a good while. I would CT right now but I'm hoping by tapering I'm giving my body time to adjust better than just CT right away.

I'm serious now and am not going to go backwards. In fact if I can't get to 90 by the end of next week I'm going to put my wife in control of the med's. I know I can do it though. I've only been doing oxy this time for a couple months.

No I don't think that is too fast... Detox is always such a fickle beast... One part of you wants to wean yourself off, but that also prolongs the pain lol. I used to always plan to cut down but then I would just end up doing what you did and convincing myself I'd rather just have the one last good high instead. Till the next day when your out... Suddenly you hate yourself for coming up with that idea.

You sound pretty damn committed though so I think you got this bro. Stay strong. Try and only use those lortab if the WD effects are rough.

If you wait closer to 48 hours then you should be able to get down to 90mg right away. I really don't see an issue with dropping 30mg right off the bat as most people are able to get by on a fraction of their normal dose. You would have to drop your dose by like 50% straight away for it to cause withdrawals, so if you want to speed the process up try to get by on 90mg after waiting until you get sick, and then after a few days drop by 10mg and continue doing that every 3 days, then by 5mg when you get below 30mg.

We love to convince ourselves that "not feeling high" is actually "being in withdrawal"...It's very difficult for a lot of people to taper using their drug of choice...This is why many people taper using a different opioid...although, if you cn taper with a short-acting one, you're probably better off!

i managed once to do a taper off of IV morphine and stay clean for a month.... u have good advice above about how to taper w/o any extreme w/d. just a little every so often and soon u will be able to handle quiting. that is the goal right?

I suggest goin cold turkey man it just prolongs shit. Also when yer doing a pill taper an not a sub taper you got pills layin around an its tempting to say fuck it an eat a handful of them motherfuckers. Idk just from experience havin shit laying around is hard to quit with just get rid of it all an go c.t. or get on subs or methadone.

^The problem is, a lot of people who post on BL aren't hardcore opiate addicts that have been using for years...A lot of people who post here have been on a prescribed opioid like...oxycodone for only 6-18 months, and on doses in the 60-200mg a day range. they don't have multiple detoxes "under their belts", so for someone like that to switch to a maintenance drug, I don't always think it's the best idea....I think someone in that situation is better off using non-opiate detox meds or doing a short taper with a short acting opiate....Methadone and bupe can often be a case of "the cure is worse than the disease"...
