Tapering off trams using other drugs?

I've been taking about 100mg tramadol daily for about 5 years. Sometimes more. I've had a seizure bc of it about 9months ago. I'm Trying to wean off of them. I have about 40 left. 50mg each. I don't take them everyday anymore.
I have access to Xanax 0.5 #120 monthly and limited access to klonopin 2mg every couple of weeks. I also have some left over Gabapentin 300mg but that's a limited supply.
I am also on a muscle relaxer called Zanaflex (which really helps with sleep) and an anti seizure drug called Lamictal.
All that said, any advice on how to wean off the tramadol with as little withdrawals as possible? My dr does not know I take tramadol. I might be able to get more Gabapentin but not sure. I am starting a new job and don't want to be going through terrible withdrawals while training, ya know?
Thanks in advance.

The gabapentin will most certainly help. Try 400 milligrams 3 times daily once you quit the tramadol and a Xanax before bed.

Thanks for the advice. I've been taking the Gabapentin once daily for the past few days. About 1gm. I find it makes me motivated and less anxious. Also, I haven't taken much tramadol since I started doing this. I'm also relying on Xanax and klonopin to get through my day. And also the Lamictal. I need to whittle down these drugs. I want to start with the tramadol.

That's quite a low dose though, you might not get bad withdrawals at all, have you noticed any problem when cutting down? Benzos will have worse withdrawals.

I do get withdrawals. Restless legs and arms get bad. I've never let it get further than that. I always pop a pill. It's usually at night, sometimes the afternoon. I can go a couple of days without the RLS coming on, but I'm scared to let it go further. I was at one point taking higher doses. Up to 150-200mg once or twice a day.
I know the benzos will be a problem but hopefully my dr can help me slowly taper when the time is right. I am prescribed them for anxiety and don't abuse them.

I also have limited access to hydro if that would help.

Switching a tram habit for a hydro habit is definitely not a way you want to go.

You might try kratom, actually. kratom and tramadol are both mu-opioid receptor agonists and work much the same way. Just be careful you're not switching your tram habit for a kratom habit. As baooozs said, gabapentin will help with the RLS and the benzos will help with sleep. Loperimide would help as well, yes, but again, just make sure you're not switching a habit for a habit. I've had good luck with lope and kratom but also cold turkey with gabapentin and benzos.

Basically man, trams are the bottom of the pyramid as far as opiates go. Something like OTC codeine if you live somewhere that's available may be comparable or lower, but you're really not going to find any weaker opiate to wean off onto. I'd just say suck it up, get yourself a kit, and kick it.

Thanks wezface.
There isn't any otc codeine available here. I'll try the kratom maybe, but can't do that until I have some more money. I'm gonna have to suck it up sometime, I know. I just (obviously) want to do it as easily as possible, especially while I'm training at a new job. I can't stand the RLS, I've had it since I was young, before any opiate habit, and I've quit antidepressants before and I hate the brain zaps.
I've been on the tram for at least 5 years, daily. Some days are easier and I can keep away from them, then when the withdrawal starts, I cave and take 1. They give me energy as well, like any opiate. My bf and I were addicted to vics before and we called them 'vitamin v'
Anyway, I'm trying and struggling a bit. Thanks for the advice.

Gabapentin will surely help. Xanax is a possible alternative but it's short-acting and very addictive in its own right; also, it's mostly selectively anxiolytic. Klonopin is great against seizures and would alleviate your symptoms a ot.

Zanaflex is good as well, supplement that with low doses of benzos and/or gabapentin and wean yourself off the trams. 5 years is a long time, and tramadol withdrawals suck - medium-strength but prolonged opioid WD combined with brain zaps and other SNRI things.

Stay away from the hydrocodone as that's a stronger opioid, considerably, than tramadol. Also, benzos in moderation. Zanaflex should already help a fair bit (I personally find snorting it to be far superior to eating).

Thanks everyone! I finally ran out of trams and I'm out of Gabapentin too. I got some Kratom and it is a LIFESAVER! Thank you. I'm Going to have to try very hard not to exchange one habbit for another, but I will try.
Thanks again!
