Tapering off 10mg diazepam?

I have been prescribed benzodiazepines for a few months short of a year. I originally was on 1.5 mgs of clonazepam for several months, then I was on 1mg alprazolam xr for a few months, now I currently take 10mgs diazepam when I wake up daily (also have 2mg diazepam take as needed, but I rarely use those). I had a run with heroin for awhile (insufflated) and I ended up going into detox at a local hospital because of some events that took place. Now my psych who prescribes the 10mg diazepam says he's going to make me drop and if I drop dirty he's dropping me as a patient which means no script and I enjoy smoking marijuana (helps with my depression, anxiety, insomnia and I enjoy using it recreationally as well) and I have no interest in stopping smoking for a fucking script of valium and remeron and I'm tired off depeding on benzos as though it's a lifeline. What would would be a quick taper plan for getting off the 10mg valium and are other natural supplements (kava, scullcap, ect) helpful for this?

10mgs valium is like .5mg xanax a day and that is nothing too serious. i hate to say replace one drug with another, but if you are are really jones'n for a benzo, have a couple drinks.

imo this is for TDS

^It is not that small of a dose. It's not huge but will certainly require tapering.

Drop 1-2mg every 10 days or so, whatever you can handle. It shouldn't be too difficult since you're on diazepam already which is well suited for a taper. If it gets difficult at the end, start skipping days once you get to 2mg or so before dropping off completely. Good luck!

^^ it sounds like his doc is cutting him off cold-turkey. however, tapering is the best route if you can get some more valium

10mg seems like nothing but my body would freak the fuck out if I were to just jump off 10mg right now. Going from 15-10mg caused some pain/panic attacks/freakouts but 10 to 7.5mg shouldn't be as shitty. I can't even really feel 30mg either but i'm just that dependent on it now. It will take some will power but you can probably get off 10mg in a month without too much trouble.

Reduce your dose by 5-10% every few days and suffer it out. Using other gaba agonists is only going to prolong the withdrawals so stay away from valerian root and kava kava IMO (not sure how skull cap works), at least until you have recovered. I take 5mg pills, 2 in the morning each day and my plan is to split my pills so I go from 10 to 7.5 over 4 days or so and down to 5mg again and keep splitting shit in half until I'm at the 1.25mg range and I'll either skip a dose or just jump off right there. That's about as fast as I can handle coming off valium (roughly 2 weeks). I'll have some ativan around if things get crazy but i think it will work for me at least.

He's gonna cut me off cold-turkey if I drop dirty which is almost a guarantee that I will. I have about 30 10mg diazepams, a refill on the 2mg diazepams, and my buddy is going to give me his script of 60 0.5mg lorazepams so I guess I'll have to make do with what I can get to taper. I plan on cutting down the 10 mgs into peices after I get used to the mg reduction and then eventually use those with the 2mg diazepams towards the end. Thanks for the replies though, never thought benzo dependency would take such a toll on me. I look forward to being able to live without relying on them though, I hate the docs having the upper hand just because they write the script.

Taper down to 5mg and then two weeks later go down to 2mg and then 2 weeks later decrease to 1mg and then one week later go off of it. So you should be successfully off it within 5 weeks. You can ask about Lyrica which is a good less addictive replacement for benzodiazepines. You could get off of the benzos within a couple weeks if you make the switch and you'll feel NO withdrawals whatsoever.

I'd just stick to the valium, it's the best thing to cut down with. Have the lorazepam handy if necessary.
Surely your doc can't just cut you off? Surely the risk on your health if you were to go cold turkey wouldn't allow him to.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but in a similar situation here.

Although I don't take 10mg DAILY, and I occasionally take 20-30mg in a day.

Ie the last 10 days has been about:
10mg
0
0
20mg
20mg
0
30mg
10mg
0
0

And that's probably the heaviest its been. Occasionally I may have done 10mg every day for a week straight. Or occasionally I might have done 10mg just twice in a week.
This has gone on for a year or so.

Does the fact that I can skip days mean I should be able to taper quickly? I sometimes get a bit "shaky" or very slightly anxious if I miss 2 or 3 days, but nothing severe.
Could I incorporate skipping days into my taper, seeing as I already skip days, or does the fact that some days I take larger doses negate this?

I was just gonna try taking 10mg and then waiting until I felt a little edgy, so a 1 or 2 day skip, and then another 10mg. Do this for a week or so, then do the same with 5mg?

Or would I be better going straight to 5mg daily now, without skipping days?
