Benzos Tapering down Xanax with K-pins?

So for the last month i've been on another xanax run. Currently about 4 mg a day, usually .5mg doses. I need to stop, and have stopped benzos cold turkey in the past twice, it was hellish. I couldn't even walk inside a gas station to buy a beer.

I've got a bunch of 1 and 2 mg klonopins at my disposal...are these a better option for tapering from alprazolam? I'm guessing taking one 1 or 2 mg a day then working my way down from there would be a lot more bearable, plus tapering off xanax with xanax is a lot harder for me....so i'd prefer not to.

Suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks!

i think you've got your answer already.
just keep doses low..remember you're just
trying to keep w/d safe..
don't let yourself substitute one addiction for another..
and you'll be good :)

Yeah i thought so. I'm going to try the clonazepam then, hopefully it will just make things a little un-uneasy. ha. Thanks

I know, I amaze myself often.

clonazepam is fine for tapering. diazepam and chlordiazepoxide are the 'classics' in this regard, but any long acting benzo will do. personally i always found oxazepam and clorazepate best for this, but that's just personal preference.

amazing is 1 of the top 3 descriptive words i'd use for you, SL.
the other 2??

left wondering.. ;)

I don't agree that it is good for a replacement. If you transition slowly to clonazepam, that is a decent plan. However, just substituting clonazepam in place of alprazolam isn't going to work. I have tried to alleviate alprazolam withdrawal with other benzodiazepines and it worked marginally at best. Xanax sets in much faster than most other benzodiazepines and this gives it unique effects, including a much greater dependence liability.

^ I would have to disagree with you. I've replaced Xanax with a myriad of other benzos and felt no withdrawals. Perhaps you just didn't dose high enough?

i have to agree with his disagreement.
although clonazepam is useless for me..it does work quite well for
several ppl i know who've used it to taper from alprazolam.
it's true- nothing feels like it works quite as fast as xanax..
well..nothing i've had, anyway..
but it can absolutely be substituted by a longer acting benzo,
for tapering safely.
