So I realize this has probably been addressed before but I am curious about the specifics of how this would work. I have a 1-2 g a day habit and my roa is smoking. I basically came into some money right around the time I started using heroin and went a little crazy and built up a stupid tolerance. At this point I begin to withdraw after about 4-6 hours without a dose and by 12 hours I am extremely ill in full blown withdrawal. I went through withdrawal just over a month ago after being found out by family (this was a relapse) and was sent back to the treatment centre I had spent 3 months in previously to detox there. I spent 10 days in detox and was put on a 5 day Suboxone rapid detox (8-8-6-4-2). Honestly, even with the Suboxone it was absolute hell. I'm assuming if I had done a longer taper and not had to jump off at 2 mg I might have had a better experience. Anyways, I am wary to go back on Suboxone and was considering just quitting cold turkey, but on second thought have decided I just can't do through that kind of withdrawal. Sooo I was wondering if anyone has had suncceas tapering their heroin dose? I'm not sure exactly how that would be done or if I even have the willpower to do it. Any thoughts or personal experiences would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys!

Oh and I basically have decided to try and get off H as I can't afford this kind of habit anymore. My life is slowly going to hell again and I have found myself thinking about starting to IV to save money which I realize probably wouldn't happen and I would just end up digging myself a deeper hole.

I think it's possible if you "know" it is. You can only do it if your absolutely ready and the only way to is to find out what is the lowest dose to take without being sick. You'll have to come up with a schedule and stick to it.

You are playing with fire, an active addict will find it near impossible to not get high when using. The goal is to not even feel the drug, just not be sick. It will be a major disappointment and you will have to accept you are not going to get high.

It is possible, just very hard. My g/f is trying this method because subs make her sick, stomach sick not withdrawal sick. It was going great, then the quality sky rocketed and she refuses to do 1/4 of a bag shots... These are the types issues you will encounter. She went from 6 a day to 1.5 in about 5 weeks but now 1 is as good as 2 and she won't accept the fact an amount she can barely see is going to work.

Best of luck, you can do it if you know you can. You may want to get a friend help you with dosing and timing if possible. I chose the sub route and am weening myself.

I've known people who successfully tapered off of east coast powder. I myself never had the will power, I would always chase the high up until it was time to quit. The few people who have been successful had dealers that were life long friends who were more concerned with their well being than making money so they cut back the amount of stamps they would sell them each week until they were down to 1-2 bags a day.

Thanks for the responses! Knowing me..I really doubt that I would be able to resist the "high". I wish I was stronger and had more willpower but unfortunately I love my drug even though I know it's ruining me. I really do want to avoid starting to IV although I can imagine how amazing it would be and I try and rationalize that it would allow me to do less. I think however, logically my best bet would be to either give myself a set length of time to cut down and then quit cold turkey, quit cold turkey right away, or go to the local Suboxone clinic and see if there is some sort of longer taper I could do. I want to avoid being on Suboxone long term if possible. Does anyone have any idea based on their own experience how bad my withdrawal is likely to be based on my dosage? I would use Xanax and zopiclone to help with anxiety/sleep which are always my biggest issues and Imodium for stomach issues. Thanks again!

It's very possible. Though not easy. I've been able to do it before though. Just do a little bit less each day until you're only doing enough to stay well.

Takes a good amount of will power.

Codeine OTC = no withdrawal if you add codeine to a taper dose of H.
