Benzos Tapering/Cutting down Lorazepam in the Hospital

Any other Bluelighters logging in while laying down in a hospital bed? I have osteomyelitis dream from shooting roxies without a micron filter. Never use just a cotton: in my experience, even when you're attempting to be completely sterile, 1/2 times some kind of bacteria will get into the solution. And in my recent lows, I was by no means trying to be completely sterile. I shot up a dangerous staph-related pathogen and now I have to live with the consequence: the damn infection found its way to my neck, created a horrible diskitis in my spine, and chewed a decent chunk out of the bodies of my C4+C5 vertabraes. Docs say 60 more days and I would've been a paraplegic.

There were no symptoms other than abruptly growing shooting and spastic pain coming from my neck. When my vertabrae bodies collapsed on one another, leaving me with a debilitating cevical spine abnormality and the inability to look up at the stars. When my gf tied my dreadlocks back, she saw the protrusion created by the whole mess in my spine and prompted me to get an MRI. This is how I found out. Since then, the pain has quaddrupled. Ive been in the hospital for 15 days now getting IV Rosephen and they administer the following for pain...

+ My usual Rx'd 30mg Roxicodone, every 6hrs. + 3mg IV Dilaudid, every 3hrs. + 2mg IV Lorazepam, every 8hrs. + 800mg Neurontin every 6hrs.

For the most part, this has been unchanged for the last 2weeks, minus some days when I had aspirations of my neck and theyd give me an extra dose of Dilaudid. Or days with 4hrs of MRIs and theyd dose me with 4mg Ativan instead.. the above is what Im both used to getting and dependant on. Here is my point..

Today one of my docs waltzed in to let me know my liver enzymes are back to normal and my inflammation levels are down. With me, this is usually a precursor to lower pain levels! I'm already not feeling as acutely in 9/10 pain levels anymore. Usually my pain is at a 7/10, and recently, rarely an 8.

I would love a taper plan, rapid as I might only have a week left. I also need help with one that assumes I have 2-3 weeks left. My Ativan should essentially be cut down to nothing... and I have had seizures on the past. This is what I'm most worried about.

Upon discharge, my script for 3 or 4 Roxy30s a day isn't going anywhere. Thanks in advance guys.

Wow thanks for the reply. Three to four a day. If you can't offer help kindly don't reply in my thread. I have a life threatening condition and don't always have time to be on BL due to Hospital activities. Thx:)

Mass08 way to be a dick, you know what he meant, or if you didn't surely you could've just moved on. Anyway, sorry I don't have any helpful advice either but wanted to say sorry to hear about your situation, sounds like a scary thing to go thru. Hopefully this post will keep at least one person from hastily using bad practices when IVing. Good luck to you.

I don't think he was being a dick because I read the original post and thought the same thing. Yall have been here long enough to know if you have a problem with a poster then to PM that individual instead of posting about it.

Back on topic...

Anyone have any ideas for a taper plan? Im thinking space out my doses as much as I can, ask my doc to drop it from 2mg to 1.5mg and slightly increase my dose rate. Then get back to pne dose a day, drop it to one mg...

Is this a good idea? Cmon this is really important guys. Last time I tapered down too fast and had a seizure detoxing from alprazolam. I need your help please.

Hey man my thoughts are going out to ya, I will revisit this later but right now I am extremely busy and can't give this the full attention it deserves.

<3 Hang in there buddy, I'm glad you caught this in time. I hope you fucking learned to stop shooting your pain medication. Are you going to keep shooting up?

I'm not really sure what to do since your in a hospital setting and the doctors are controlling the meds. My best advice would to explain your idea to your Dr. And ask his thoughts on what you should do. Rarely do people want to taper drugs in the hospital seems like they always want more and more. I don't know your Dr. But I would think that he would agree that tapering is the way to go. Good luck

Agreed.

OP, I would Google the Ashton manual for tapering off of benzos. I think that's the most effective way possible.

Get on what ever 4 mgs of ativan (lorazepam) equates to in valium (diazepam) and do this

Say your valium dose starts at 40 mg per day are are stable there. drop dose like this.

7 days- 35 mgs

7-days 30 mgs

7 days- 25 mgs

7 days - 20 mgs

7 days - 15 mgs

7 days - 10 mgs

7 days - 5 mgs

7 days - 2.5mgs

Done. Its takes awhile but i have been severely addicted to benzos for 8 years and the time i actually come off for short periods of time this method is the most painless way possible. best of luck man.

Thanks for the advice guys but unfortunately I can't switch over to diazepam. Not only that but my doctor's convince that since add a van is working so well for my spasms I should stay on it. (Meant ativan, not "add a van" im using android voice to type sry) I'm beginning to space out my doses more. But I have to agree with her it does work miracles for my spasms. While it does allow me tp take less of my IV Dilaudid, I keep hearing 2MG/Iv Ativan 3x a day is a very high dose. Is it? I'm so conflicted.

Follow up MRIs show my infection improving, though very gradually. The doctors expected slightly better improvement by now.

I should post pictures of how FUCKED up my cervical spine is now. We'll probably never get another "how do I shoot my roxies?" Thread again. It's downright frightening... had the infection never reared its ugly head in my spine it would have certainly paralyzed or killed me. I've turned down at least 20 opportunities to shoot up since this happened, not including my own daily revolving cocktail of meds often just left out for me if Im sleeping or something. Not to say I want to shoot up at all or anything, but I could use a little more supervision right now... my nurses are almost too cool. I'd breathe a little easier; both having a picc and constantly being around needles unsupervised scares me at times. This fuckin sucks.

Wow, don't know you but i'm sorry you're going trought that shit...
I don't IV myself (that's bacisally the onlit limit I have about drugs...) so I can't imagine how much harder it is on you.. comparining to popping/snorting/plugging/smoking (talking all kind of opiods here), I'm not judgemental or everything, I'll let my friends shoot at at my place, it's just a personnal big no-no..
Sorry for the rambling, pretty "tired".
You've got guts, if I were you i'd fake intense pain+anxiety all the time to get more dilaudids and benzos, just to kill the boredom of being in a hospital...
Anyway, just stoped bye to say good luck!
Bonne chance

Glad you're in good hands and doing better. That must have scared the hell out of you. I know it would me. But don't worry about tapering from the ativan just yet. I would have suggested diazepam too but these doctors seem to know what they're doing. What county are you in? I'm in Broward.

Palm beach. Sorry have been very depressed: infection shows no improvement. I'm CLINICALLY better as in Ive gained 15 lbs and am not the malnourished junkie I came in as. Haven't shot up in 23 days, and my meds are the same minus one less mg on the Dilaudid (why, im not sure ) lorazepam no change. Pray for me guys. Apparently my infectious disease doc seems to think I won't die from this. I hope she's right.
