Good Morning,

I have researched the topic on several googles of the forum and can't find anything. If there is such a thread, please direct me to it and delete (of course.) I am trying to taper use due to financial issues. While I search for a doctor to manage my pain, I take care of it myself. The problem with opiates, for me, is that they work. I like that they work, and am happy that they do.. but it leads me to an excess eventually. This is a common theme of opiate abuse, I've seen.

To the point: I "know" how to get off them, but I want to know some methods and tips to doing less. For scientific and thread reasons let's say 2 80mg of OC a day worth of opiates. Replace when needed for personal experience.

Thanks.

Tapering takes a large amount of self control, and doing it on your own often times ends in failure. Oxycodone, being a shorter acting opiod is not an ideal choice to use for tapering. I would highly recommend getting on a taper plan with a doctor, or doing a short methadone/suboxone detox. There are plenty of free clinics around, and I don't know where you live, but because of my financial situation my county has granted me full medicaid, which pays for prescriptions, doctor visits, hospital stays, psychiatrists, specialists, etc etc.

Is your goal to eventually taper down to nothing and try and lead an opiate free life? Or just get your tolerance down?

^BrokedownPalace has provides some excellent links! There is a lot of taper information available here, so check out the threads that show up in the search as well as in the Other Drugs Directory for more information. There is also information there on how to deal with and lessen the symptoms of opioid withdrawal that you will begin to experience while tapering.

I'm going to go ahead and close this since its been answered, please feel free to private message me if you have any questions.
