Tapentadol (Nucynta)-What's the deal?

I'm not going to be using this anytime soon what with the sobriety and all, but I would like some general info on it from BLers that have tried it. It is basically just supercharged tramadol or is there more to it than that? There's a number of docs here that are starting to prescribe it more and more, so at face value, I'm assuming it's because it's seen as a "less addictive" opioid agonist. What are its subjective effects in comparison to tramadol and for that matter, to traditional opioids?

What I'm asking is, just what is tapentadol (Nucynta) like? I have some surgery coming up and I discussed this with my addictions doc and he said that it'd be allowable if I were to take Ultram or low-dose Nucynta for the postoperative pain. That being said, is Nucynta something I should be avoiding because of euphoria and relapse risk? I know the doc said it'd be alright, but still, I want to avoid any and all risk here. Granted, the postoperative pain is going to be moderate, if not a bit severe at first, but I don't want to risk relapse if Nucynta turns out to be euphoric whether or not my addictions doc says it's OK to take.

Bump for you, I want to hear more about this!

The structure of it fascinates me! I hear it's a very euphoric opoid. Much more recreational than Tramadol and much more euphoric too!

Double bump. Was gonna post a new thread asking about Nucynta, if it actually works for pain, side effects, etc. Unlike the above poster, the structure horrifies me, it looks nothing like any thebaine/morphine derivative, much more like a substituted amphetamine or phenethylamine type drug.

take tramadol if you want something that is absolutely fuck all fun. i'm just on it post-op and even the ceiling dose of 400mg washed down with a bottle of good barolo feels like a sad excuse for an opioid.

It fascinates me for that reason! It amazes me that the structure apparently has such potent action at mu sites!

Tramadol isn't shit. It depends on the person though and how efficient your liver as at converting it to o-desmethyltramadol which is a very euphoric opoid. I'm one of the lucky ones. :D It was available for a time to buy from RC sites but production problems have seen it disappear, shame!

It seems to me that, much like Tramadol, it may be converted to something that gives more euphoria inside the body and some bodies do it better than others. I could be completely wrong as it's mechanism of action is still not fully understood with it being so new; but it'd explain the huge inconsistency in reports, some calling it a euphoric opoid and others calling it dog shit.

I was on this drug for a month. I think I was taking like 50 mg TID at the time. If your two options are tramadol (which I've also tried for pain) and low dose nucynta, IMO, nucynta 100%. Tramadol kinda sucks...I know a lot of people like it, but it's not for me.

what was really noticeable was that i got pretty "speedy" from the SNRI effect of the drug. As for analgesia, it was probably like a 50% (I'm being pretty liberal) at its prescribed dose, but when I would take like 200 mg I would actually nod out, get pain relief, but the "high" was never really there. In my opinion, it may give you a slight reminder of that typical opiate high/warmth, but for me it wasn't like "damn, i really want that nucytna" like I am with my oxycodone heh.
