Tapentadol (nucynta) Question...

I'm going through a withdrawal of oxycodone right now (I can take about 20 mg every 6 hours and maintain) and I've been taking tramadol

to ease withdrawal symptoms (it does help a lot, at least for me)... Anyways, I came across some nucynta (50 mg) and I've never tried it before...

how would they be for preventing withdrawals? I hate taking new meds...

thanks

Tapentadol is an opioid agonist so it should be cross-tolerant with other opioids like oxycodone and therefore work to ease withdrawals, yes.. it's more potent that tramadol but I don't know any conversions for it I am afraid. You should be careful taking it with tramadol however, it has serotonergic and noradrenergic properties as well as opioid, and tramadol is an SNRI - serotonin syndrome is a possibility, this interactions checker lists a major interaction between the two. I would take one or the other.

Are you trying to come off opioids completely or are you just unable to get hold of oxycodone at the moment?

honestly, I'd love to say I was coming off completely. I'm gonna try my best and wean myself off of it. I'm also sorta battling an ambien problem (can't sleep at all without it, and when I do take it, I tend to overdo it and get myself in trouble). Sucks to be battle off two things at once, but I got myself into it, I guess I can be man enough to get myself out of it...

That does sound hard! How is it going with the tramadol? Tapentadol is stronger but if you are doing okay with tramadol and you dislike new drugs it may be best to try to taper with that. Remember though that there is a risk of seizures with higher doses of tramadol - 400mg/day is the recommended safe max dose, although people have different seizure thresholds.

Loperamide can be very helpful too especially when you taper off the tramadol. Good luck with it all, if you want to quit then I have every faith that you can do it :)

I would tackle one thing at once though - perhaps leave the Ambien until you have finished coming off opioids?

Be careful to taper off the Tramadol as well as its SNRI sub-profile can leave some nasty lingering effects, and stopping CT will be VERY unpleasant (much like now I imagine, sorry :( ).

great posts by everyone, i would have to agree not to take the tramadol and nucynta together. possible SS and most definitely uncomfortable stimulation will occur. ditch the trams or just save them for another time if you have nucynta IMO.
