I've only read a little about Taoism, Tao of Pooh and I ching stuff. Anyone got an interest in it or a verse they'd like to share perhaps please?

I read "The Tao of Pooh" a few years ago now and I really wish I owned a copy because it's fantastic! :)
I think it's a really great and almost perfect way to introduce yourself to the underlying concepts of Taoism - Infact it's almost as though A. A. Milne was a secret Taoist without himself even knowing it :D (apparently he was an Atheist though, but I guess Taoism - akin to Buddhism - isn't really a religion of sorts).

And even just the first quote on the Wikipedia page tells you a great deal in just 11 words:

"The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao."
It (Taoism) has been broken up and interpreted in different ways and by different schools of thought and whatnot over it's time of inception, but the values of selflessness and respect for all life that is positive to the rest of humanity and betterment of the self still remain in whatever manner that it's taught.
But there, yet again, is a sort paradoxical aspect: It's something that shouldn't have to be taugh, per say. It's more of rediscovering an aspect of the soul that one already has within themselves, that everyone is born with the qualities and you just have to follow your instincts and be positive and kind to others... But you might end up being a psychopathic serial killer if you forget the positive and kind bits ;)

If in heaven there are no vowels and you cant speak of the Tao that can be known then people asking for a cuppa constantly are talking gibberish i reckon.

I used to do the I ching before i fell for Jesus. ( The OT is quite vocal about divining and its consequences).. there was an element of spirituality/synchronicity about it but it was a bit like comparing a lighted match to an atomic bomb or the sun.

....and ching!

Sounds interesting, "Russell Kirkland describes pseudo-translations like The Tao of Pooh as "spiritual colonialism." Hmm unsure.

:)

V poppular apparently.. The Empire of Pooh lol

I had a bad trip once, before i was a christian, and turned to my beloved i ching and it shouted at me ' you let your majic turtle go.. ten years bad luck'. Scared the shit out of me.

The Tao of Pooh Benjamin Hoff Quotes

“Do you really want to be happy? You can begin by being appreciative of who you are and what you've got.”

“The surest way to become Tense, Awkward, and Confused is to develop a mind that tries too hard - one that thinks too much.”

“Lots of people talk to animals...Not very many listen though...that's the problem.”

“Things just happen in the right way, at the right time. At least when you let them, when you work with circumstances instead of saying, 'This isn't supposed to be happening this way,' and trying harder to make it happen some other way.”

I'm writing a book about Eeyore wisdom since Poohs got a book. ' The Way of Eeyore. '
