As Winston Churchill said 'two great nations divided by a single language'. We say black or asian. Carrying a knife in the UK is an automatic minimum sentence of 5 years. Please come, but don't bring a knife, you won't need it. I promise.
 
your probably got in jamshyd that would exlplain everything id guess. But of course instead of listing repression as why he comitted suicide they'l put lsd as that takes all the blame away from the parents and school... its sad.
 
Yes, we mustn't lose sight of the fact that this is a terrible loss. Jamshyd is one smart cookie, he thinks an awful lot before posting.

If that is true I would rather go back in time and live in Nazi Germany, than live in modern day Britain.

Hopefully most people get suspended sentences.

Unless you lose remission, you would only serve 2.5 years. Like I said, just ask first. It's a lot less violent than the US, all the US people who visited me said how safe they felt. You don't need a knife, so why bother? We have quite stiff punishments to stop people carrying them, and it does seem to help. You will be VERY surprised at the police. American tourists are often targets for pickpockets so you get extra care with information & support if anything does go wrong.

Welll, I'm surprised at Jamshyd, he's always been a thoughtful poster. I think he has a blind-spot (we all do) due to his upbringing (my guess, happy to be corrected).
Virtually everyone suffers from some form of mental illness in their lifetime. Nobody knows what was in that poor fellows mind & judging him after his death is both pointless and nasty.
I do wonder how people can be so insensitive. I've lost friends in accidents, by suicide & from illness. As you get older, you become more compassionate if your growing as a person.
This is someones child. Think what has happened to his family? Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem but to feel that low, well, I've been there. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. We have lost 5 people already this year, mostly from drugs. Is that any better or worse? I think not, it's a terrible loss. Look at the people who have posted on the shrine. Lots of people were hurt by the losses. A human life is precious, please don't mock or belittle anyone. One day you might be the last straw...
 
What Jamshyd said is a wild guess, but I bet many homosexual people do have a great deal of trouble dealing with being closet cases etc.

It could have been anything that made this kid start to fuck up, including just wanting to get high and be lazy, who knows.

I think I experessed what I meant in the word words (and have been misunderstood as is usual 99% of the time!)

What I meant is that closetted gay men are the ones most prone to being perceived as problem-free (which they usually are not) and very talented/intelligent...etc (which they usually are) and successful in life, and yet one day you discover that they have commited suicide for APPARENLY no reason because no one realized how much troublesome being gay is for people who actually think and realize how much pain they are in.

I am just saying that one VERY likely explanation to what happened was that the guy was gay and suffering from it secretly. It had nothing to do with LSD - perhaps the LSD showed him that death is a much nicer place than a life filled with fear and hatred. I don't blame him if this is the case.

I don't like to dramatize, but lets just say that I speak from personal experience.

I have to say though, in my 3+ years on BL I have never intensionally spoken condescendingly to anyone, not to mention I've made it expressly clear that I am gay myself, and yet I get flabbergasted everytime someone misinterprets my posts as if they are some kind of trolling/flaming!

In other words, I was hoping my statement was to raise awareness of how many unexplained suicides are due to opression because of homosexuality - anyone who knows me enough would have guessed that I wouldn't make blanket statements that "fags are all dropouts" or whatever it is that offended you in my post.


EDIT: FYI, it is statistically proven that gay men are amongst the most prone of any population to commiting suicide.

The kid was fucked up internally and was going to kill himself. LSD, a bad fight, some shitty circumstances, poverty, etc etc could have been the numerous triggers that breaks the camel's back. It happens every day, and yet a psychedelic makes the news.

We don't know what was going through his head, but your in a fragile state when on acid (at least I am). Set & Setting are both important. Who can say if the LSD was the final straw, nobody.

Wait.. I just read this part. WTF? The ambulance came or it didn't? They usually lock you up overnight in the psych ward for attempted suicide.

Well, looks like hanging out with the wrong crowd is evil, as it makes you suicidal. Oh, and living in the woods. Ban the woods.

The feelings of not wanting to live are almost always transitory. Do you feel vunerable on LSD? I know I do. If someone was nasty to me, I think it would be bad...
 
Doesn't sound like his 'friends' were very caring, but then again if they were tripping it would be difficult. Always have a babysitter. The importance is shown here all too clearly.

Pretty sure you are getting knife confused with firearm there.

Carrying a firearm carrys a minimum of 5 years.

Carrying a knife gets you no more then comunity services and that's even in zero tolerance areas like camberwell.
