Hi there,

Is there any insight into how this would work? Would it kill the roll?

I'm just curious because my psychiatrist prescribed me tianeptine because I can't take bupropion anymore. Is this dangerous?

On top of that, does anyone know how long you'd have to wait before taking MDMA if you'd want it out of your system and if there is any withdrawal?

Well Tianeptine is a tricyclic antidepressant so if you take it in combination with MDMA it can cause serotonin syndrome, so that is a no-go. But some good news is that it has a pretty short halflife including its active metabolite its 7hrs, which means in 35hrs it should be completely outta your system. It takes 5 half lives for a drug to be eliminated, id give it a full two days just to be safe tho. And yes Tia had withdrawals, but if your using it in theraputic ranges they shouldnt be that severe, hope this helps.

Stay safe ❤️

From what I’ve seen it’s a TCA, though so it doesn’t act on blocking serotonin uptake so serotonin syndrome shouldn’t be a thing?

If you look up Tianeptine and Serotonin Syndrome on google there is a bunch of cases of it happening to people either when mixed with other drugs, or in massive doses when taken alone. It is not something you wanna play atoune with. Years ago i got a really nasty case of Serotonin Syndrome mixing DXM and Zofran and it damn near killed me i had to be hospitalized.

Since then like a dumb ass i got a mild case mixing Tramadol and Amphetamine to close together, it really is horrible and you should just wait the two days. But at the end of the day its up to you, but i cant say with a clear conscious it will be fine.

The half-life sounds like it's bearable, though. Do you know why it has such a short half-life and if it'll really be out of your system after 35 hours?

The halflife is actually 2.5hrs, but one of the drugs it metabolizes into had one of 7hrs so you need to keep that in mine cuz that compound still has activity. All drugs have different halflives for various reason its all just a matter of how your body is able to break it down do to its structure and what its composed of. Someone here that is wiser than i could give you a better explanation of the specifics @negrogesic @sekio @Skorpio.

Sorry I’m quite new at this. :D But you mean it creates another drug after metabolizing? Would that be bad for the MDMA and should I wait a couple more days?

Yeah it creates a new drug that is why the 2.5hr half life is not what you should go by, that would mean its out of your system in 12.5hrs but this isnt right. It has that metabolite with a halflife of 7hrs so you need to go by that, which is why i gave you the 35hr figure. Also saying to wait 48hrs just to be sure cause of possible differences your bodies own ability to metabolize it could play a factor.

I would say that you should likely be fine, especially if you are actually taking true prescription-sized doses (like 12.5mg 3x a day), and the doses of MDMA are not high. Despite being a TCA, tianeptine (along with it's relative, amineptine) behaves quite a bit differently than the more common short side-chain TCAs (like anafranil, which acts with high affinity on the SERT), with longer side chain making both tianeptine and amineptine very weakly or negligibly serotonergic. I would imagine that any reports of serotonin syndrome stemming from therapeutically dosed tianeptine use occur from a combination of multiple drugs that are the true causative agents, as well as perhaps other factors. Also note that the diagnostic criteria for serotonin syndrome itself is somewhat vague and subject to interpretation.

But it is definitely a gray area to a degree. Personally I've combined tianeptine with strong serotonergics like 6-APB, but that's not much of a data point. I'd say the answer is: it might be an issue and might not be, but at conservative doses of both I'd say its pretty unlikely. Might as well skip the dose of tianeptine before though. The dose from the day before will be out of your system.

Great, thank you both so much! This was immensely helpful. I'd say skipping it for 2 days just to be safe would be the prudent course of action.

Normally when I roll I take about 140mg, not sure if that's still a "high dose," or not.

Hey @negrogesic and @cosmic charlie, was just curious if you had any input on the "high dose," here. Does 140 mg with redosing count as a higher dose?

I'd say its moderate, but you'll have nothing to worry about if you've stopped the tianeptine a few days before. Even if the dose of MDMA was high, the tianeptine discontinued days prior would have no impact.
