Taking Suboxone and Xanax, ADVICE PLEASE!!!

I am currently in recovery for opiates. I've done every kind imaginable. I'll keep it brief and say that things got bad enough I had to move back home 950 miles to live with my folks.

Currently I am taking 8mg of Buprenorphine 2 times a day, and for the past 2 years have been taking Alprazolam for PTSD (.5mg, every 8hrs as needed). My doc is aware of this. But the thing is I've been hearing from MULTIPLE sources that this is a very dangerous combo, and then from other sources that it's fine. It would not be a first for me that a doctor has given the green light on two medications that interact, without getting any heads up. And I was always very careful to NEVER, EVER mix anything! It would be a really big help for me to hear from people who either take these together, or know some one who does. Your input is MUCH needed, and appreciated. It'd really help calm my anxiety for sleep.

I wouldn't consider it dangerous if you've been taking the benzo for awhile...talk to your doc about it more....honestly I'm prescribed that exact same amount of bupe and I am currently, at this moment, also have .5mg alprazolam in me right now with like 6mg bupe however the benzo is recreational....for me its a slight background high, but everyone is different...

You'll be just fine if you just ask your doc about the mixing a little more....I have mixed the two numerous times and have felt a high with more benzo, but I know that's not what you are looking for. Be careful and maybe just try .5mg xanax if you feel you need it, but make sure you don't have to drive anywhere. You have to test the water! How long have you been on the sub?
 
Just about two weeks. And I am probably just being paranoid, I just don't trust doctors all that much, so it always helps to know there are others out there going through similar things. I will definitely keep chatting with him though, and I pretty much never drive anyway. I'd be lying to say I didn't thoroughly enjoy the buzz I get from the subs. lol. But I am just not abusing them. And it's not nearly as satisfactory as other things. But I just want to be healthy. And I just don't mix, it makes me so nervous you know? <3
 
True true....you will get a minor buzz in the beginning....so if its for sleep, perfect just stay in the 'as directed' guidelines of each medicine....I just took another MG of alprazolam along with now 8mg suboxone and feel wonderful. I also ate a light meal in the middle of it all.

Just be careful of the co-dependence. Maybe try using the alpraz only when you think you really need it. Just be smart about it, I bet there's plenty of info on this site and everyone is nice so Welcome and start researching!
 
The only reason everyone thinks that benzos are dangerous with bupe is because when subutex first came out in europe people were shooting subutex mixed with rohypnol and od'ing. So subutex and suboxone were forced to put a black box warning.. You will be fine I promise.. Just be careful mixing temazepam/bupe and flunitrazepam/bupe and you should be ok.

I don't think you should worry too much. I am on methadone 130 mg/daily, plus I am on alprazolam 1 mg 3x/day (been on alprazolam for 4 years straight). I too have PTSD, among other disorders. I am also on 20 mg Lexapro once daily, 100 mg Seroquel at bedtime and Dexedrine IR 10 mg in the morning, 10 mg in the afternoon, and 5 mg in the evening.
 
This thread was from six months ago and was bumped without any more real information...and, as Tommyboy linked, there is another thread discussing the same things. For this reason, I'm going to go ahead and close this thread.
