I know that the question "How long should I wait to take my Suboxone after doing _____." has been beaten to death on this and every other drug related forum. However I wanted to post my unusual experience and see if someone else had experienced something similar.
Earlier today around 10pm I took a shot of heroin; about three bags worth. I went to sleep and woke up around 6am, and proceeded to take my suboxone out of habit. I knew I had used the previous night but in my morning grogginess the contraindication didn't even cross my mind. Anyway I went about my business completely fine and here I am an hour and a half later with no precipitated withdrawal. I have taken suboxone fairly quickly after using before, but only with oxymorphone. I have found that with oxymorphone and oxymorphone alone I can take my suboxone fairly quickly after use (usually about 8 hours) with no ill effects. I always chalked this up to oxymorphones extremely short half life when used intravenously. I am wondering if anyone else has noticed that while on bupe maintenance that they are able to use once and then switch back to suboxone after a relatively short amount of time. I would not recommend this practice to anyone, as typically if I had used I would wait a full 24 hours before getting back onto suboxone. However it has been well over a year since I have used, and last night was kind of a one time thing (hopefully) and the nuances of the switch were farther from my mind then they might normally be.
My thought is that since the bupe is fairly built up in my system when I got back on the little heroin that might have still been in my system was already being blocked out by the remaining bupe, and so when I took my dose the heroin was already displaced from the receptor by the bupe that was already in my system.
Again I don't recommend using while on buprenorphine, and if you do, I most definitely do not recommend waiting only 8 hours before returning to bupe use. I just wanted to see if there were others with my experience of if this was just a fluke.
